Pfsense instead of sr213

Hi everyone, have set myself up a little home server , currently running Proxmox with Pfsense at the moment. Struggling to the sky (fttp) to work with Pfsense. Have put the client identifier in the advanced dhcp box , furthest I can get is a sky warning page asking me to select how I connect my router (seemed to be aimed at older tech). Just wondering if anyone has managed to get Pfsense working?? Can't find much in the usual places. many thanks in advance.

Pfsense is dead now, I'd suggest you look at OPNsense it is a better and easier-to-configure firewall.

@Jamie+B85 Sky use two types of authentication on their FTTp lines in the UK that your equipmentvneeds to offer. The primary one is DHCPv4 Option 61 with a standard string anything@skydsl|anything

The second is DHCPv6 PD which does not require a string but only works on roughly 75% of lines. 

Ireland iis different.

Well I've spent 2 days playing with OPNsense and had to give up. I got it working but then slowly it started to die. I'm 99% sure it's a dns issue. I had an issue with one of the ports stuck on 100 link but sorted that now. Everytime I rebooted the vm it changed my lan ip to 192.168.1 when I'd set it up to 192.168.0 , also trying to upgrade didn't work either. All this because sky won't let us change dns or shut off dhcp!!

@Jamie+B85 there is no restriction on using a different DNS provider however if you route requests via a Sky hub it is hard wired to use Sky's set up. On the older black hubs you can disable the DHCP server if you want but you can't on the newer white Wifi Max hubs.

That's not exactly untypical of ISPs: BT/EE does the same.

Well some good news, I've been running OpenWRT for a few days. Aside from a small issue with paramount plus I've got lovely stable internet. 

option 61 is required and a hex string for the client send option. 

more than happy to post a guide but don't want to go against any sky rulings.
