Packet loss while family using streaming services

Dreamingof5G_0-1681313895944.png

Packet loss of up to 10% on wifi from the sky router on both Pc and PS5.
Uptime is due to me testing a reboot of the router. My house uses ethernet to powerline adapters and these too are reflecting the packet loss. If it is just a case of sky routers are bad at handling traffic can anyone suggest me a third party solution either a complete replacement or something that i connect to the sky router? If i use a third party the packet loss shouldnt happen because the sky router isnt handling the information is that correct? Historically had an engineer out due to large ping spikes while gaming and this was apparently also due to the router not being able to handle streaming and running a single basic game at the same time.

@Dreamingof5G you mention packet loss during times when the family are streaming video while I assume you are gaming. You are sharing a 25Mb/s connection so that is not exactly surprising as bandwidth is going to struggle especially if they are watching in UHD. Also Sky hubs have no way of prioritising gaming data you need a router designed for gamers to get QOS.

However the stats show a line fault as the noise margin is 8.4dB and Openreach have restricted speeds to stabilise the line. Run the connnection test in the My Sky app as I expect it will ffercto book an e ngineer to check the line. If it doesnt call Sky and ask them to get the line checked.

Re: Packet loss while family using streaming services

Is that a new thing with BT or what? I had an engineer  out previously on the 28/09/2022 and the ping spikes were attributed to my powerline adapters but now i have this packet loss straight from the sky hub. Does any of my previous message make any sense and would you reccomend a third party router to help manage traffic? I mean surely a game of call of duty on PS5 or a simple mmorpg like Lost ark on PC should take next to no bandwidth at all and shouldnt be causing the router to have packet loss?

Attributed but not proven - just probable. I had a Netduma a good few years back but the wifi sucked.

@Dreamingof5G there is an apparent line fault which needs looking into. Whethervor not thst is linked to the history is irrelevant you need to get it fixed now. That is likely to help sort the packet loss problem which can simply be down to too much traffic trying to use limited bandwidth and could esily be  causing packet loss..

While BT own Openreach the two outfits are entirely separate, limits are imposed by Openreach to stabilise lines for technical reasons. You need to talk to Sky to get this fixed as I explained.

There is a separate potential issue with the power of the Sky hub which as I explained has no QOS ability if you do have multiple users in your household you may need to buy a router that can prioritise gaming traffic but that is pretty pointless if the connection is as slow as it is.
