Out of contract sky broadband

I am currently switching to County Broadband as Sky do not offer FTTP in my village. My contract ends 12th October with Sky, however there has been delays with new company as a license needed to use a telegraph pole. I phoned Sky to explain delay which might be up to 12 weeks.  Whoever I spoke to tried to get me to commit to a new contract which I could then cancel as he implied my broadband would stop on 12th October. Surely I will simply be paying out of contract prices and be on a rolling monthly basis.. He was very insistent I would need a new contract for my service to continue. I will contact again closer to 12th October, but feel like I am being pressurised into agreeing a new contract.

@JackkeF

You don't need a new contract: at the end of a minimum term the broadband service continues at the regular list price rather than the discounted amount.

Re: Out of contract sky broadband

Original date was 28th September with County Broadband covering any additional costs.

Re: Out of contract sky broadband

@JackkeF Trying to find out from you if you have/had called sky for the cancellation on any or whatever date you spoke to them about. If you did then they may not care and extend any further and the date if you gave them will be it, if they cut you off on that date there will be no return and you will just have to wait until the altnet get's you connected on there Fibre Connection!

Re: Out of contract sky broadband

Thanks, dates were set through the One Switch process, thinks that's what it is called, so new provider contacted them. Should be simple to ensure my cancellation is stopped, but does not seem to be so...Sky did say it will not stop on 28th September, just wanted to make me commit to new contract after 12th October then cancel again. Will have to see what happens.

Re: Out of contract sky broadband

@JackkeF If you did this all through OTS and you new provider is a member off that then there is NOTHING for you to do, sky keep the lights on but you will lose all the Discount's at your ending time and go to FULL price from then onwards, so there should be NO issue at all! Once the FF is completed then your new ISP let's sky know they have you fully and they can end the connection at that point!

YOU cannot commit to anything with sky, if you do so then they will bill you the complete value to the ending off that contract so say 22 months at a lot off money to you, that your new ISP will for sure NOT give you back!

You need to find out if your new ISP is signed up and a member off the OTS Scheme.

And there help section they are not so you would be advised to check, the only thing they have is DO NOT CANCEL the other until they have managed to connect you!!!

Re: Out of contract sky broadband

Many thanks for this.

County Broadband is a member of OTS, they recommended I contact Sky directly to ensure broadband continued just in case. Of course then I get a lot of rubbish from the call handler at Sky saying my broadband will stop and I have to have a new contract which I can then cancel. Truly appalling. Thanks for the reassurance.
