Is this correct, straight into the wall and plugged up with silicone? He also took a chunk of harling off despite me telling him to be careful before drilling - he popped stone chips on top of silicone to hide it. I mean its not dreadful, I just want to know if he should have put a grey box on the wall where the wire enters or if its standard for them to just put cable straight into the wall?
My neighbour looked like they have a grey box protecting the wire where it goes into the wall.
Thanks

We've got one of those externally too. Maybe it depends on the installer, or perhaps the procedure has changed. It snaps over the end of the plastic drill hole liner insert, but given how discolored it is after only a couple of years, I'm not convinced it's actually outdoor rated and UV-resistant.

Re: Open Reach Fibre Install Wire Straight Into Wall?
The 'grey box' (Customer Service Point or CSP) is the one in your image, as evidenced by the laser light warning symbol embossed on it. The incoming four core optical drop cable comes out of the duct under the angled grey cover, up under the box section and spools inside the CSP where one core is fusion spliced to that black pigtail, which they've run back down under the boxing before it comes back up the wall.
I would have expected a white circular entry point cover over the black cable where it enters the wall though.

AFAIK they dont put anything on the outer wall. On the inside you should have a small grey circular cover like the one in the picture below.

Re: Open Reach Fibre Install Wire Straight Into Wall?
Thanks all. I guess each installer does their own thing then..... I dont have one of those white caps inside or outside. Inside, after he marked the square of where I wanted the inside box he drilled right in the bottom left corner and squeezed the wire out, right at the corner. I guess it keeps it neat....hard to know exactly what the standard is.

Re: Open Reach Fibre Install Wire Straight Into Wall?
Hammering a metal staple over an optical cable is generally discouraged; )
I suspect some installers were capping both ends and then wondering why they were running out of stock....

Re: Open Reach Fibre Install Wire Straight Into Wall?
The reason I have one inside is because my fibre wire runs about 1m along a skirting board before it meets the ONT. If an installer can mount the ONT right where the cable enters its probably neater to not bother with a cover on the inside.
