This issue where DNS or the TCP/IP layer fails but physical connectivity is well known issue that Sky is looking into for a permentent fix in the near future.

Our broadband is offline again, second time today - router has Green power and WiFi lights, the others are off. The app reports no problems - this is a daily occurrence, SKY are appalling - spoke to them a few times this week, an engineer was out 2 weeks ago and said he would update our records to say we need an external line to box check, SKY are saying this is wrong and I have to do the basic checks everytime I call them or they won't progress the investigation. Maybe time for a written complaint to ofcom- absolutely ridiculous.
