Latest (Sky Broadband WiFi Max Hub – white unit)
Hello All
Been a long while since my last post. All is going well with my (Sky Broadband Ultrafast Plus 500) and (Sky Broadband Boost + Booster unit) package, however, I’m doing my end of year review to see if there are any improvements available.
The first thing I have noticed is that there has been a latest (Sky Broadband WiFi Max Hub – white unit) released by Sky and I’m wondering what hoops would I have to jump through to be able to upgrade my current (Sky Broadband Hub – black unit) to the latest (Sky Broadband WiFi Max Hub – white unit)?
My current (Sky Broadband Hub – black unit) does occasionally experience erratic WiFi related issues, which a reboot sorts out. These issues can vary from:
- The hub sometimes losses its WiFi 2.4ghz and 5ghz network names, which I have to re-enter (this only happens on hot summer days, so maybe the unit is having an intermittent overheating issue)
- The hub WiFi speed can be really slow sometimes and then ok again within a few minutes, when sitting in exactly the same place, with the same laptop – very random
The intermittent issues above are acceptable to live with but it does make me wonder if the hub is suffering internally and may at any time decide to go ‘pop’.
Any help and advice is always very welcome - many thanks

That would necessitate taking out the WiFi Max subscription supplement. This replaces the Broadband Boost add-on if you currently have that on the account.
I'd suggest reviewing the various posts here regarding the foibles of the Max Hub though.

Yes, I see what you mean having read some peoples, "not so good", experiences with the WiFi Max Hub SR213. As they say, sometimes it’s best to “stick with the devil you know” (Sky Hub SR203) and not be an early entrant, too early.
Hopefully the SR213 will stabilize more over time, especially as it will probably become the default hub in the future, when the Q-Hub and SR203 have been sunsetted - once FTTP is the norm and to reduce the costs of multiple router model manufacturing, stocking and supporting.
Might contact Sky about getting a new SR203 replacement based on the issues I intermittently experience.
Is it true that the current Sky hubs store their settings in the cloud to make it easier when changing your hub? Was not aware of this function.

Only the Max Hub does that.
