Checking the broadband service status there is a reported fault preventing internet access on my line how do I find out when this will be fixed?

There is no way to do so. Area outages get priority but take as long as they take to fix: swapping a card in an exchange is rather quicker than replacing a cabinet hit by a vehicle. Individual domestic faults have a two working days target time to fix.
