Interior renovation - ONT installation

Hi,

Our property is undergoing renovation and I need to know what state the sky engineer needs the property to install the ONT so I know when to rearrange the installation.

I would ideally like the ONT about 8m away from the CSP and since the walls are currently studwork at this location we can set up some ducting in the walls between the CSP and the ONT and a backbox or something and then rearrange ONT installation for after plastering so when he comes he can just feed the cable through between the two.

Alternatively we can have him in now and attach a back box to a stud for him to put the ONT on and he can feed the cables himself behind the studwork. But this means plastering after ONT installation.

Any advice on this?

Cheers, Brad

ONTs don't usually sit on a backbox and aren't designed to fit one: they typically mount on two screws put directly into a wall.

Cable ports are on the underside to facilitate this.

I suspect an installer won't want to put their fibre pigtail into a private duct: it's the national data network all the way to the ONT and they have specifications for such things.

If you did manage to convince an installer to use an in-wall duct it might have to be something like this:

From the image it appears that in this case both router and ONT power source are elsewhere.
