Can't split 2.4 into and 5GHz on sky max hub

Hi all

I had sky broadband installed today, using the sky max hub @150mbps

I tried to replicate my virgin broadband set up by splitting the 2.4 and 5.0ghz bands. Couldn't do it despite following the on site instructions, with and without the My Sky app.

Rang the help desk to be told that it's not possible - yet. "Maybe in a few weeks or months"

It's not turned out not to be as big a problem as I was expecting (I have lots of oldish light bulbs, plugs and security cameras that all needed to be installed on 2.4ghz networks only). They seemed to connect OK, leaving just the easier stuff (phones, and tablets, etc) to be reset to the new SSiD manually

Just mentioning this now so others won't be as surprised as I was.

BTW, you can turn off/on the 2.4 and 5.0 individually if that helps when setting up new devices.

Am I right in thinking I can put a cable from the hub to the Stream Puck to reduce the WiFi load?

Stream pucks can use ethernet, yes.  The reduction in load on the Hub won't be significant, but the puck itself may well be much happier: be sure to switch off its own wireless though.

Thanks.

How do I switch off the puck's WiFi?

WiFi 6 router

I've just got the WiFi 6 router and want to have dual bands, the router username and password doesn't allow me to access 192.168.0.1. Does anyone know the username and password I should be using? Thanks

You need to use the my sky app to access the max router settings however you can't seperate the bands you need to disable for example the 5ghz band temporarily so that any 2.4ghz only devices can connect

As @cookiemonsteruk indicates, the Max Hub does not permit unsynchronized bands, so there's no option to have different SSIDs on 2.4 and 5 GHz

Re: WiFi 6 router

Ah ok, I just want to switch it to 2.4 so I can connect my smart plugs then switch it back to 5. I've tried using the username and password on the hub, but it comes back as incorrect??

@Bassbeast if you want to change settings on the white Sky Wifi Max hub you use the My Sky app not the web interface. Log in with Sky id linked to the account go to product settings, choose the hub and on the next screen you can edit the SSID and the WiFi password for other settings choose Advanced Settings.

@Bassbeast

As already stated you cannot login to the hub locally using those credentials. All settings are done from the My Sky app using your Sky ID.

Re: WiFi 6 router

Yes but I can't see the option to turn the 5ghz off and turn 2.4ghz on, unless I'm being stupid 🙄

@Bassbeast

I do not have the hub so can't comment on the exact steps but AFAIK 2.4ghz & 5ghz are on by default and you cannot split them. You can only switch 5ghz off completely. However having the hub 6 but switching 5ghz off seems very silly as your just making your connection worse.

Re: WiFi 6 router

Ah ok, I'm only switching it off so I can connect my smart plugs, then once they are connected I'll switch it back on again.

@Bassbeast

Yeah connecting your smart plugs would be an appropriate time to switch 5ghz off temporarily. You can certainly turn 5ghz off in the app it will be somewhere under advanced WiFi settings.
