Sky loans wireless booster hardware free under the terms of the 'WiFi Guarantee' element of the legacy 'Broadband Boost' add-on and the 'Enhanced Wall to Wall WiFi Guarantee' part of the 'WiFi Max' subscription supplement: they don't otherwise provide or sell boosters except to resolve issues with Sky Q. Phoning Sky to go through a telephone diagnosis is required to have a booster or pod allocated to the account. Inevitably some  Sky booster hardware has leaked onto a certain auction site and elsewhere online, but Sky won't offer support with using these.

Confusingly the default 'Wall to Wall WiFi Guarantee' bundled with all new Sky Broadband orders where Boost or Max is not added by the customer doesn't actually provide booster hardware, and is essentially a sales lead generator for the supplements mentioned above plus a one month broadband subscription refund.

Sky Glass 55" (on ethernet) & two Stream Pucks (one ethernet / one WiFi)
BT Halo 3+ Ultrafast FTTP (500Mbs), BT Smart Hub 2

Re: How to get a sky max pod

Hi - Im a bit late to this post but hoping someone could lend addiitonal insight. I've upgraded to the Max Router/Subscription. I was only provided one Max Pod as part of the upgrade but require two Max Pods to reach additional smart lighting devices in my garden. Sky will not agree to provide a second Pod for this use. Given that I have a Max Wifi service subscription, would a purchase via a third party work or is each pod serial number locked to an individuals subscription profile?

@Michael24P What ever you do, do not purchase a 2nd pod as you will have no way off knowing that it has been registered or not. To get a second from sky, it has to be internal to the property, gardens and external buildings are NOT covered. Link below so you can read. See the what do we mean in every room

Re: How to get a sky max pod

Thanks JimM1 - The challenge Im facing is that on the older black router and white wifi extender reached the garden well but 1st floor internet was a bit slow, hence I was 'sold' into the new products. Turns out the reach of the new Max router is less than the old one and now doesn't reach my lights outside. If I use the single pod I was provided to extend outdoors, our upstairs is plain useless with connectivity. Sky will not provide a second for external use (as it will infringe upon the contractual guarantee of reaching 'wall-to-wall' coverage) so now Im stuck with dysfunctional garden lights! They also will not allow me to exercise the cooling off period as they say the equipment has been set up.....thanks Sky! Any ideas? I just missed out on an Ebay sale for a Max Pod but seems that was perhaps a good thing according to your advice but I was willing to take a chance to see if it might work.....

Re: How to get a sky max pod

@Michael24P I am led to believe that the old SE210 white upright booster does still work with the new Sky Max hub, why not give it a try, see if you can get it to pair then move upstairs and test if you can send data through it, you have nothing to lose in trying!

Just cannot see and believe that the Max hub is as bad as everyone is reporting, the old SR203 was really good for an ISP supplied hub, just put mine back in the box as back 10 weeks now, SE210 also back as resurected to make sure it was alive and kicking, zero problems with either device.

Re: How to get a sky max pod

The connection between the router and pod works well (I had to manually connect on a number of occasions to get it to talk to one another) and distribution from there is okay but the reach of the router itself is very disappointing since they hyped it up on the phone being new tech and faster etc but sadly I'm not seeing evidence of that. In hindsight I should have just stuck with the old gear. They're now messaging me to remind me to return the old one....kind of reluctant ;). Thanks for your suggestions, it does connect but again the range between new router and old extender is feeble at best so still doesn't solve my garden lights conundrum!

Re: How to get a sky max pod

@Michael24P You don't have a couple of old powerline adapters lying about, just wonder if the Ethernet backhaul was working on the extenders, that way you can put them anywhere you want, just the speed of the powerline to contend with?

Re: How to get a sky max pod

Is there any other way of contacting sky for poor WiFi signal to request a Max Pod.  Everytime I ring there is a 40min+ wait time!

I run numerous tests and then go through circles of self help.

Thanks.

@Pymzola There is NO other way, you need to speak to CS!

"There is NO other way, you need to speak to CS!"

And they will INSIST that the only thing they can do to help you is upgrade you to the Wifi Max package for an extra £4 per month!

It's like pulling teeth every step of the way to try and get any help from Sky with this without paying them more monty each month!

Re: How to get a sky max pod

Im already on the WiFi Max which is why it's ludicrous I have to call and hold for 45+ mins!

Thanks for the comments. I'll ring up when I have a spare half day and report back on my experience.
