Gaming jitters and drops out

I have giga fast broadband with sky max white router two pods in a three story modern house. Struggle to game on a PS5 on the middle floor router comes in by the front door on the ground floor. Also on the middle floor and second floor, my youngest is unable to game on his phone or his meta quest three. Never had this problem with Virgin the router is located in the middle of the house as wiring was brought in when the house was built for Virgin. While I appreciate the router  is now by the front door I thought with sky max it would work. is there a better way I can get it to work and be stable. We're changing it for a gaming router help can that be done? Thank you for your help and advice in advance

Re: Gaming jitters and drops out

@BigSeats What are you ping google with device wise, and the method you are doing it by, wired or wireless, delay's for sure are showing up with the ping response back to your device, would also be helpfull to know the sky hub that you have plus the type off connection?

Re: Gaming jitters and drops out

Hi @JimM1

From my PC using CMD. I have done with wireless, however i have not changed the adapter since switch from virgin, and i didnt have this packet loss or latency before.

i have ordered a cat6 cable to test it, and i will record the results again when it comes.

i have sky fibre and the hub is  model : SR213-0(or O)2-UK-wht

thanks!

Re: Gaming jitters and drops out

@BigSeats Correct, not sure what you had VM wise connection or the VM hub/router in use, but for sure the cable Ethernet cable is the way to go and eliminate if it is a wireless wi-fi issue or not on the Sky Max Hub! Your testing method is good but you also want to ping the Sky Hub to see it is keeping going or stuttering with response!

Re: Gaming jitters and drops out

@JimM1 by the latter, you mean to isolate whether the connection is between the PC/Adapter and the Hub or behind the hub to the WWW?

Good plan, i will do some research into the command for this method.

@Missjodie I am trying to sort it, just spend £15 on a cable to test it myself.

Re: Gaming jitters and drops out

Hello,

I have connected directly to the router using a CAT5E Ethernet cable and have not been able to re-create the fault, however, on other non-wired devices i am still experiencing latency. I however cannot run a command to show evidence of this. Surely it cannot be several devices all with dodgy adapters?

Thanks, Seats

Re: Gaming jitters and drops out

Hiya,

Thanks for getting back to me . so just to clarify, it's only resolved if you connect the device to the Wi-Fi through cable ? But all the others still suffer? 🫠  Iv just left talk talk for sky and never had this issue with them - looks like I'm  going crawling back to them 😄

Re: Gaming jitters and drops out

Have just installed a 10m cat 8 (overkill ) Ethernet cable from ONT socket to the sky max router. Sadly had to drill through the ceiling to run the cable to the middle floor. ( ( 3 storey house ). My other half is not too impressed 😳.

The router is now positioned more or less in the middle of our house. So far so good, I will fully test it over the weekend and post an update. Next week
