Do I need bt need to set up internet line before connecting sky broadband? If so how do I do this?

Any such work is by Openreach, not BT.  While Openreach Ltd is a division of BT Group, they are required to be operationally independent, and referring to 'BT' in this context does risk confusing things.

If there's not already a copper circuit or optical cable at the address, or where the copper is due to be replaced by optical, scheduling Openreach to do the work is something the ISP books when it receives a customer order for broadband.
