Constant Ping spikes whilst playing games - Possible solutions?

Hello, I am currently experiencing massive ping spikes whilst playing any video games on my PC.

The Sky package I am on is the Gigafast 900 mb/s and I am connected to the router over wifi using a Sky broadband booster. The router is in the room directly below me downstairs.

The spikes happen 24/7 no matter who is using it and when. However, when no one is using the wifi the games are somewhat playable but when more than 2 people start to use it is when it starts to become unplayable.

This also doesn't happen when I'm connected with an ethernet cable however it isn't ideal having a massive cable trailing though the house.

The current solution I'm looking at is purchasing a 3rd party router with QOS support so I can make my PC have higher priority and hopefully increase the strength of the signal but I'm not sure if that's the best way to go about fixing the issue.

Would love to hear any other suggestions people may have to try and fix this issue.

You have already described the cause of your problem, you are connecting wirelessly to a Sky booster. Boosters prioritise range/coverage over speed & stability so you'll likely get ping spikes when connected to one. What you may want to try is removing the booster completely and connecting directly to the WiFi broadcast from your Hub. If this still doesn't help then you could try using powerline adapters which is essentially ethernet without the cable trailing through your house.
