Re: Cant install or update Android Apps through Playstore and YouTube not working

Haha yeah, my first night playing Helldivers 2 on Xbox and Sky’s got me fighting my own bugged servers just to get YouTube working. At this point I’m half expecting Master Chief to drop in and fix the routing before Sky does. For Freedom.

Re: Cant install or update Android Apps through Playstore and YouTube not working

Hello. Same here for me in Essex. YouTube and Play Store not working. Where is everyone in Essex? I'm in Westcliff and this happened after there was an open reach man fiddling with the box at the end of my road this morning and I'm wondering if this has something to do with it or if it is pure coincidence. I phoned sky earlier who were unhelpful and didn't seem to believe the problem I was having.

Re: Cant install or update Android Apps through Playstore and YouTube not working

Not working for me.  Leicester / East Midlands.  Multiple devices don't run YouTube / Playstore on Sky BB but do on mobile data networks.  Issue is Sky BB.  Seems very similar to lots of other threads.  Wasted so much time uninstalling and restarting routers and stuff.  Wasted my whole evening.  This thread was given a solution in past because it was referred to Sky....  As far as I can tell, this has not had desired effect.  Issue has been running on and off for all of 2025.  Do I need to make a complaint?  Will it make any difference?

Re: Cant install or update Android Apps through Playstore and Youtube not working - Birmingham Area

This has not worked.  It's now almost September and issue still here or resurrected.

Re: Cant install or update Android Apps through Playstore and YouTube not working

By the way, the above was meant to be a direct reply to the person that marked the thread with an answer.  It's not an answer as still an issue.  Anyway, to summarise a lot of thread reading, the issue in Yorkshire seems to have moved to Leicestershire and Essex.  Impacts YouTube / PlayStore / Android / iPhone / Paramount+.  It's not the router.  It's specific to Sky BB filters.  Using mobile data off Sky WiFi fixes it.  VPN fixes it but not for Paramount+ due to block VPN.  Please all raise separately to Sky on Phone as all other troubleshoot are waste of time.  Good luck.

Re: Cant install or update Android Apps through Playstore and YouTube not working

Hi all.  I seem to be working ok this morning (Leicestershire). I was only noticing the issue with app updates (dont use YouTube on phone so no idea if that was an issue for me or not) but all my app updates came down successfully via wifi just now, so hopefully Leicestershire at least is sorted, fingers crossed. Will update again if problem returns.

The key to all this is always make sure you report it to sky.

They will always say hard reset router or they will send an engineer and always refuse. Point them at the forums the more people report the quicker they can escalate it and the quicker it gets sorted.

I think ours was down in the midlands about 3 or 4 days.

Also working down here in Essex.

I guess when this inevitably happens again the only solution is to have a moan and wait it out 😂

Having just woken up (day off) and seeing previous replies I done a test on YT and play store first thing .... all working. Lets just hope whatever 'fixed' it stays fixed (Colchester, Essex)

So do we know what happened? Why did we all have trouble?

Re: Cant install or update Android Apps through Playstore and YouTube not working

From what I’ve seen it was a Sky routing/filter issue with Google services. This actually happened before – back in January there were threads about the exact same thing where YouTube broke for loads of people. It comes down to how Sky runs all traffic through their Broadband Shield system, even when you’ve got it switched off.

Think of it like this: TV apps like Netflix just need the motorway, so they kept working. But phone apps like YouTube and App Store need the motorway and the side roads (Google/Apple’s background services). Sky basically blocked those side roads by mistake, which is why VPNs worked and why it wasn’t device specific.

Looks like Sky have fixed it now, but it’s frustrating they don’t acknowledge it or apologise. Customers waste hours thinking it’s their kit, when really it’s Sky breaking it.
