Re: Broadband woes

I am having the same issue since I upgraded to Ultrafast BB last year. My broadband goes down which is then confirmed by the orange VoIP light on the hub. It is so random. Once it worked for over a month before the orange light came on, sometimes its can happen every other day.  I have just been restarting the Hub at the mains which solves it. I have been wanting to resolve this issue but just havnt been getting the time to come onto the forums. The orange light was on this morning when i woke up but was fine last night.

I also had an issue with my Superfast BB (fibre to copper) few years ago. This was when my connection speed would halve byitself after a few hours after rebooting the hub. Sky Customer Service didnt have a clue. Its only when I posted about the problem on here somesone looked into it and worked with Openreach to solve the issue. Apprenly it was something to do with software at the exchange. Well thats what I got told but who knows.

Re: Broadband woes

@Romeo+W There appears to be very mixed reviews arround zen, but as it is mostly around customer service issues hard to say, the router they are using appears to be good, not sure about landline but issues not reported, does seem to be more control regarding landline, and you would require to do some learning regarding that. Has Sky tech been back in touch yet regarding your complaint?

Re: Broadband woes

Thank you for finding that out for me. I was considering ZEN after it being awarded the best broadband provider by Which. To be honest, I'm not going for a phone line next time. The 2 people who need to call us have said they're fine calling the mobile. I do wonder if we didn't bhave the VOIP if things would be fine with Sky.

Tech support are calling me on Tuesday evening.

Re: Broadband woes

@Romeo+W Would not like to recommened one or other as i say moved from sky, now on EE they are also very good, with sky for 20yrs, no real issues with them either, you need to look at them yourself, not even sure if anyone would advise, mae-3 uses ZEN on his profile, but think he is using all his own gear by the looks of it. Its a hard call to say one is better than other. Sky were absolutely brilliant through my fathers bereavement process apart from a few automated e-mail oops they did everything that was required, extended the broadband and landline until was time to shut down, were true to there word, even told me dont worry about sending anything back, but i had promissed to do so, therfore i did send all the equipment back, just billing to sort out now due to bank account process shutdown, but that will work out fine, called them they said automatted process, i said it is what it is..... Hope your call works out next week.

Re: Broadband woes

@Romeo+W As a foot note, i resisted when asked to have the landline as an option via the router port, wonder if it would be possible for sky to turn it off on yours even if only for the test. My router was rock solid for broadband there were some issues on landline now and again but as i relied on it was all over it like a rash when there were problems, dont think that you could go back to the old style, cant remember if you are on fttp or not, you need the old fttc which i have still got at present until OR get fibre up the pole.... Just a thought, keep it in mind for you call....

Went back to have quick look, see you have an ONT so on full fttp.

Re: Broadband woes

Quick couple of questions @JimM1 . Why did you choose EE over BT? I know they are essentially the same company - on BTs website they encourage you to consider EE. I am an EE customer for my mobile so they appeal to me but their WiFi boost (mesh system) is more expensive than BT. If I can't use my ASUS access point I'll have to subscribe to it. Do you use an access point or non-EE mesh?

Re: Broadband woes

@Romeo+W So similar situation, BT are moving all but business customers to EE as there prefered supplier, so dont think you would have any success with trying to get BT, i tried but was pushed to EE, same have 2 EE mobiles. EE router is like Sky Max, just not fully ready for prime time yet, not worried is working ok, waiting on fttp soon i hope. I have Asus XT8 router, double NAT at present to the New EE SuperHub+ connected on port1, Asus RP-AX58 Repeater/Booster/AP in repeater mode direct to EE router wi-fi connected, BOTH zero issues, just need to know what you are doing with them, old tp-link powerline connected wi-fi for Ring Doorbell and Ring Camera, got extra powerline as could not get SKY booster to play with the EE but needed ethernet port for the Sat box connected to TV, non sky... IOT dotted about house, six units all on 2.4ghz some connected to AX58 and some to Powerline wi-fi also zero issues. Dropped the landline, got EE broadband latest AX router, not bad, poor web interface, have to use mobile app so in my oppion just not what you want for network control. Package £29.00 for 24 months, was not to bad and sky was going to £40. There maths did not stack up for the April increase, and as a long time customer nearly 20 years, just had enough so bit the bullet and changed. So would not worry to much, i had absolutly zero problems, changed EE router to have Sky ssid and password, plugged it into the master socket, switched it on and everything connected with not one single problem. Because i could not get the sky booster to work, not surprised at that had to make slight change to Asus AX58, set it to repeater mode, and replace the booster with a tp-link powerline ethernet module. But i know what i am doing so that makes a big difference. As soon as i have fttp then EE router will be replaced by the Asus-XT8 direct on the ONT RP-AX58 meshed to it with ethernet backhaul. Will get something like a 150mb/s download package no need for anything faster.

Re: Broadband woes

@Romeo+W If your Asus mesh is working on sky, will be no issues on EE. Only problem that i had was log into Asus, set the name of ssid and password to sky's via its admin control, wps mode set's it up fine, but Asus just likes to keep its ssid name, to have mesh you need to have same name for the seemless roaming, EE has to be single ssid, i had mine split, so selected sky name with 5G tag as its primary. Some devices 2.4/5 jump about, they just cant make up there mind what to do, but as i only have fttc at present speed is not the problem but working on it, bandwidth is, when daughter streams 4k movie, and wife screams what's up why slow, have to remind them 40 is easily consumed, 4k movie likes 34mb/s so not much left. In general day to day all laptops, mobiles and even the daughters ps5 all going and no one complains.

Re: Broadband woes

@Romeo+W Final point, you do NOT want the EE mesh, there is NO WAY you want to waste money on that, your Asus will be way better than anything EE can make, that is 100% true, if Asus was to sell to every ISP there just so good at what they do. Standard fttp package, ditch the phone, on EE mobile already, 150 is same call, option 1 or 2 for BB or Mobile, and you are there at customer service, get really smart like me, do everything on app, and get the call back from them, what could be better...

Re: Broadband woes

@Romeo+W One final point, I did the EE broadband online to get the smoothest switch over, so far has went ontime and working fine, then attacked mobile at the EE shop, as the offer is unlimited calls/texts/data on a rolling monthly contract as long as you have broadband for £10 per mobile, they tried hard for the £13 version which has a faster download speed, but a phone is for making phone calls and i dont care how long it takes to download on a mobile, just my opinion. Watch the deals. The shop is good, they can also do everything that is needed....

Re: Broadband woes

I can't be sure if the asus router worked on Sky as they claimed it was causing the voip issue. However, as I've had the issue since removing it I now doubt that. If I did use it it would be in access point mode and I'd disable the WiFi from the EE router. I'm guessing if I had a newer asus router I could plug it straight into the ont box. Can you split the 2.4 and 5 on EE? I've done it in the past to connect the ring doorbell to the 2.4 as I couldn't get it to work on the 5ghz. I also connect the smart lights and speakers to the 2.4ghz.

Re: Broadband woes

@Romeo+W No splitting with the EE router, only one ssid allowed, they are trying to conform with the wifi6 AX standard. Just checked Asus can have independent ssid names for each band. I have the wi-fi turned on all EE and RP and XT. Carefull with the bands especially on the 2.4ghz, set CH 1, 6 and 11.
