I have just received notification of a price increase from July this year:
Sky Broadband Essential + Sky Talk Anytime extra from £23.50 to £32.50 !!!
There were choices suggested and as I use my phone very infrequently I am considering changing my package to Sky Broadband Essential Plus + Sky Pay as you Talk. This will reduce my payments to £27 per month. On selecting the new package I was advised that I would be sent a new hub ...and charged £10 for the privilege!
My question is:
Do I really need a new hub?
What is the differnce between Sky Broadband 'Essential' and 'Extra'
Many thanks.

From the description, and the Hub replacement, I'd guess that the new product is SOGEA ADSL (no PSTN, and Sky Talk using VOIP) bundled with Broadband Boost.

Thanks for replying TimmyBGood much appreciated, but your techi talk about the hub is a bit much for me 🙂 ...do you mean that I will need a new hub as changing from 'anytime extra' to 'pay as you talk' ?
Also, the Sky BB Essential Plus seems to be the same as I had with Sky BB Essential??

As for the hub replacement, I would imagine you will be put onto VOIP calls which is essentially your telephone over internet instead of the copper phone lines. You'd need a new hub for this as your phone will need to plug into the hub and older Sky hubs are not compatible
