Broadband connection query

I'm thinking of getting a Sky tv & broadband package. Does the broadband router need to be plugged into a phone port? I want the router in a different room to the phone connection

Re: Broadband connection query

It depends!

If you order a 'Full Fiber' package, typically 100mbs+ then Sky will contract Openreach or City Fibre to run a fibre to you home, they will also install the ONT (Optical Network Terminal) to your wall. There is 'some' flexability as to wher ethis can be installed, usually what ever is easiest for the installer!

You will need to eneter your details into The sky broadband checker to see what is available. If you already have broadband, its probably deliered over the phone lines as ADSL, if fiber is not available in your area then the Sky router will continue to use the phone line.

You can use Openreach Fibre checker at https://www.openreach.com/fibre-checker

Re: Broadband connection query

Thanks for your reply. I checked what connection is available in our area & full fibre is coming next year. We currently have part fibre

Re: Broadband connection query

@figi24 Then you have to connect the sky hub to the OR Master Phone socket to get Broadband there is no otherway to do it, you can look at getting a longer VDSL cable to move the hub to where you need it, but longer cable may slow the hub down slightly speed wise!

Cable type will all depend on the connection that you have currently and are using, but the NORM is an Rj11 to Rj11 connection. Extension phone sockets may go dead but it all depends on what is done and if you are made to go digital phone connecting a landline to the back off the sky hub!
