Re: separating 2.4GHZ from 5GHZ

I de synchronised my 2g and 5g so I could reconnect my cameras and WiFi plugs.  My question now is if I syncronise it again will these devices now loose their connection.

Re: separating 2.4GHZ from 5GHZ

Hi James, is this the case? I split mine in order to connect my cameras and WiFi plugs also but the sky talk very bad no one can hear me.  If I put them back will these devices stay connected?  I couldn't face reconnecting everything again.  Thanks.

@marsha101

Resyncing shouldnt disconnect the cameras. If you have issues with Sky talk you should post a new topic in the talk board and someone can help

Re: separating 2.4GHZ from 5GHZ

why is this not default?

makes perfect sense for devices that support 5ghz to be able to just connect to it, if no connection, default to 2.4ghz

@Frank+Williamson

The specification for how an 802 standard (of which 802.11 is a subset) operates is set by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE): it's not within the remit of any manufacturer, ISP or other client organisation to mess with it as that would kind of defeat the purpose of having a 'standard' in the first place.

Re: separating 2.4GHZ from 5GHZ

We recently joined Sky.

I went for the TV & 1G Broadband (fastest) package as we are a busy family home.

Everything was up and running so I decided to login to the Sky Router to look around and split my WiFi network into 2.4g & 5g as I did with my previous ISP's router to cater for 4K streaming and HD video calling.

I now have a buffering problem!

On 2.4g I increased the bandwith for 20mhz to 20/40mhz and this fixed the issue.

On 5g I'm chsnged to channel 36 80mhz which is the max bandwith available but I getting terrible buffering (ball rolling)

The funny thing is my speedtest results are showing 500/600mbs speed on 5g.

It seems to be a bandwith issue on the 5g network even though I have extremely fast Internet speed but I could be wrong.

Again, I never had any issues splitting the wifi network with my old ISP as it worked flawlessly.

Is desynchronising 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz causing this issue?

Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks in advance guys.

Re: separating 2.4GHZ from 5GHZ

One of the reasons it's useful to be able to have sub nets or separate networks is for things like high quality music streaming. Steaming on one network with bp other devices on it can usefully lower the noise floor; make it easier to identify problems and generally provide a far better musical experience.
