Re: separating 2.4GHZ from 5GHZ

Hi. I've worked out why my robot vacuum won't link to my router. Sky have just changed it and it's now 5ghz instead of my previous one at 2.4ghz. I've read everyone's posts and understand I think how to separate the two by renaming one so that the robot can link with the 2.4ghz one. However, I'm terrified if I do this my TV won't work anymore. Someone suggested that they don't need unsynching, and to just turn off the 5ghz one so the robot links to the 2.4 ghz one, then turn the 5ghz back on?  Which is best please, unsynch them and rename the 2.4 to identify it, or just disable the 5ghz, connect the robot, then sync them back up again?  It's taken me hours to read everything and I'm still worried if I rename the wrong one the TV won't hook up as I don't know how to hook that up, whereas I know how to link iPhones, ipads and the Mac etc. My husband did all this but we've recently split up so I'm starting from scratch. I also have Hue lights and Hive heating and security cameras to hook up to the wife so need to know which is the best, 2.4 or 5ghz for each? Any advice would be helpful before I take the plunge and rename something. Thanks.

Re: separating 2.4GHZ from 5GHZ

Was thinking about getting a Blink XT2 Camera but then you find out it doesn't support duel-band routers. Never thought having the latest router would be a complete pain. Ah, the joys of owning a duel-band router, unsync this, seperate that.

Hi I have the exact same problem what did you do in the end? Disable or split?

Re: separating 2.4GHZ from 5GHZ

I disabled but it didn't work, however I'm not sure the problem is my end as I get a message on my Proscenic robot app that the server cannot be reached 105). I've emailed them to check. So frustrating.

Re: separating 2.4GHZ from 5GHZ

Ah ok did you try it with any other 2.4ghz devices as a comparison? So you think there is an issue your device? I have bought a tp link security camera which only takes 2.4ghz so I came on here to lool for solutions the only 2 I have found was the disable method and the split. I am reluctant to do the split but there is logic behind the disable method.

Would be interested in hearing if anyone got the disable system to work reliably over a period as I would expect issues if a device was ever powered down or the hub reboots which is inevitable at some point.

In my experience splitting causes few issues I advise renaming the 2.4GHz band which means devices that can use the 5GHz band can happliy continue to do so.

Re: separating 2.4GHZ from 5GHZ

With the disable method from what I have read on these forums is that the 5ghz is only disabled temporarily allowing the 2.4ghz device to connect then once connected 5ghz is renabled. The splitting method I do not want to do as I heard it screws up the Sky Q mesh if the 2.4 and 5 ghz are not synchronised.

Re: separating 2.4GHZ from 5GHZ

I disabled 5ghz but it still wouldn't connect. I'm waiting to hear back from Proscenic to see if there is an issue their end. There is so much conflicting opinions on whether to split or not. I have no idea what is the best thing to do to be honest.

Re: separating 2.4GHZ from 5GHZ

Thank you so much for the easy explaination. I have been without my smart sockets for a month now   ( since I got my Sky broadband installed) And now they are up and running. I am a complete ninny when it comes to these things and now I feel like a computer wizz 🙂

Re: separating 2.4GHZ from 5GHZ

I've been looking at this issue again since I've been working from home. I've successfully managed to force my work PC to connect to my 5GHz without splitting however because we get so much interference from next door's Sky wifi, I'm wondering if splitting and using 5GHz on our phones as well might be the solution.

Can anybody confirm something? Because I'm sure I've tried this in the past and things went bad. The 5GHz signal is for the Sky mini boxes and 2.4GHz for other stuff? So if I change only the name of the 2.4GHz my Sky should just keep working properly without any issues?

Re: separating 2.4GHZ from 5GHZ

How do you simply disable the 5gz temporarily whilst you set ip

a plug and then put 5gz back on ??

Did u disable or split please

Re: separating 2.4GHZ from 5GHZ

I spilt them and renamed one of them, indicating the one that is 2.4ghz. For my small devices like the robot vacuum and my Wansview security cameras, they are linked to this one. Everything else stayed linked to the 5ghz one which I didn't rename. All is working well.

Re: separating 2.4GHZ from 5GHZ

Hi. I can't seem to log on to the 192.168.0.1 page. I have tried admin and sky and admin and my password. I have been tried to reset the box which I read would reset it back. I have the new upright box. Many Thanks
