Does anyone know if this is an app problem or a hardware problem? I can't believe it's a proper QLED.
We replaced our 48" old regular LED/LCD with the 65" Glass as an upgrade, but the picture quality is terrible. We looked at the QLEDs in PC world and they seemed amazing and that's what we thought we were getting.
We put our LED tv (2015) and streamed Star Trek Discovery over Netflix, and did the same with the glass tv to make sure we arn't going crazy and the difference is night and day. The older tv is twice as bright with so much more detail. The Sky Glass is dim and muddy with backlight spill that only gets worse if you're not looking at it straight on. The artifacts are like what you would get with a slow internet connection on NetFlix.
Does Glass in some engineer menu calibration mode we can reset, or are the limited settings we can access as good as it gets? It's like our other TV when using the eco mode at night, so I'm not really sure if Sky expect this to be acceptable, or if we're doing something wrong.
Also can anyone with the multi room puck confirm if the multiroom box is reliable enough to use as the main device? I would rather return the big TV, get the smallest one for the bedroom and then use the multiroom box in the living room with the TV we already have.
Thanks!

@xanhugh Turn off auto backlight and go into custom picture settings. Once you tinker with it, it will be much better. Especially on Netflix and Prime Video. There is a software update coming on Tuesday that I suspect will solve a lot of these out of the box issues.

You are completley incorrect, customers have 31 days to return from day of delivery, no one is stuck on a 3 yer contract either, why are you making up incorrect information?
TV's are paid ovee 24/48 months, Subscriptions are on 31 day rolling contracts.

A firmware update can't solve inherent panel limitations.
To be clear - any firmware update and/or user settings will not make the picture brighter than the panel is capable of. Tinkering with the settings might give an improved picture within the TV's capabilities but that's only making the best of a bad situation, as it were.
The TV will have the same brightness pre- and post- firmware and user settings being changed etc.

Each customer enters into a contract with Sky by placing an order. There is a clear term of that contract giving one month to return the equipment to get a full refund which Sky refer to as a "cooling off period". There is therefore no difference if you choose to exercise that right on day 13 or day 29.
I ran advice centres that advised on consumer law for many yesrs and can tell you that the distinction you are drawing does not exist in reality.

May tell my mum to hang on till wednesday to call sky if she's still unhappy.
If they can’t do anything about itv hub and missing episodes in on demand then it is likely to be a return to Sky.

As long as they call before day 31 it should be ok, you never know they may even like the TV 🙂

@d2h There is nothing wrong with TV brightness. If you have auto dimming on the TV can reduce the brightness to around 100 nits.
I tested this watching The Expanse on Prime. With auto dimming on I didn't notice any HDR effects and the picture was pretty dim. Turning off auto dimming and setting picture mode to custom (with default settings) the picture brightened up and the HDR was great.
The firmware does fix things. Someone on another post who has the beta said the HDR became as bright as their C7 OLED.

There is a lot wrong with the brightness. 630 nits isn't enough to offer a suitable HLG picture. I'm not talking about Prime Video. I presume that's 'HDR', i.e. HDR10?
As already mentioned by myself and others, a firmware update simply cannot improve a panel that is, by design, limited to a maximum 630 nits. It can improve on any enforced dimming that the existing software version might be imposing but it can't physically get any higher peak brightness than the set is capable off - and that is quite low for optimal HLG viewing.
But if you and others are happy with it, that's all that matters and I'm certainly not here to judge.

@d2h Is right , forums are great for getting other peoples point of views and reviews of tech etc, but at the end of the day that's all they are, other peoples opinions, that shouldn't ever trump what you think or sway you just because of what someone else says/thinks 👍. I think the TV looks brilliant especially when showing a Dolby vision feed, but that's just my opinion, and what I like in screen will be different to someone else, I don't particularly like bright screens so even if it could get brighter I wouldn't set it that way.

Same issue..picture is terrible .tried all recommended settings ..its just grey and washed out. Same with the puck on an OLED. I've watched the same scenes on Netflix via TV app and via Puck..the difference via the TV is staggering so much better
Sky cant help apart replace the TV . Will give that a try but suspect its just poor quality given the puck has the same issues even on a better OLED tv
Shame as I like a lot about Glass but end of the day if the picture is garbage doesn't matter what else it does..

To see HDR properly you need TV capable of 1000 nits brightness. There is a YouTube video called Samsung 4k hdr demo Qled Q HDR 1500. It demonstrates how HDR should look. Sky glass TV only can produce 650 nits. Therefore any HDR will have a dull picture . Have a look at YouTube video and compare with sky glass. Hope this helps.

I have the exact same problem as you.
I also have thre Pucks and the picture on the TV's attached to the Pucks is far superior to the Sky Glass 65 inch TV. It is like looking through a dirty window watching the Sky TV. I am trying to contact Sky to find out if there is a fix a New TV or whether I send it back.

If you've been unlucky and received a Glass set with a genuinely defective panel then Sky should replace it: that would typically show as gross light/dark banding and/or areas of discoloration.
Just having a Glass panel that 'doesn't look as good' as a different make isn't necessarily a 'defect' though: it may be the result of how Sky chose to specify their sets, particularly with regards to peak brightness. The imminent firmware update is apparently due to address relative brightness and tweak default picture settings.
