Yes it is only an old standard WiFi one.

 

Would a WiFi 6 Card be future proofing it, or would it be overkill? 

 

Do you know of any reliable recommendations to look at, Card or USB?

Sky is unlikely to have an 802.11ax Hub out any time soon, but if you can find one without paying much of a premium over 802.11ac then it might be worth getting now.  You'd need to look inside the PC to see which slots are free, and also note the height of the unit: desktop cases can usually only accept a half-height card which is a problem for the aerial connections required.  Personally I prefer cards to USB.

The case is a fair sized one, so should be okay with a card. 

 

I'll try and have a look in the next few days for what slots are available.

 

But if not, a USB one will still be better than what I have now.

I am just posting an update from my last post.

 

I decided not to go down the PCIe card route, instead i have bought the Netgear Powerline PLP1000 Twin Pack Gigabit port with extra outlet.

 

Plug it in and away you go.

 

I did a Fast.com speedtest earlier and was getting 180 to 250 Mbps at the busiest time, which i am happy with.

 

Just done another test now and am getting 330 Mbps at 1.00 am.

Yep same issue told I get 500mps to the hse but the Wi-Fi capabilities of the router are terrible had 2 x engineers round, had a good chat with one,  tried adjusting the router settings, but agree sometimes get 230mps but generally less than 100, PS4 is less than a meter a way and the Wi-Fi is 10pms, not impressed, hoping sky understand that their equipment is not fit for purpose.

The 'purpose' of an ISP router is to facilitate a wired internet connection  arriving at the address: WiFi, despite our reliance on it, is frankly an afterthought.  The next generation of ISP-supplied hardware will be WiFi 6, but realistically will still be budget models and simply cannot be expected to reliably deliver the kind of speeds now possible over FTTP to wireless clients: if they did there would be no market for the huge range of other such devices currently available.

@Ant+Mcpe The PS4 is less than 1m away...why are you not using an Ethernet cable then rather than relying on Wi-Fi? This will be far more reliable and deliver the true speed of your connection...physics dictate that a cable will always be superior to wireless...

WiFi can't, and never has been sold as something that guarantees 100% performance 100% of the time, so why people seem to expect this I'm not quite sure...budget ISP hardware is never going to be as solid as proper 3rd party kit either...it's built to a price.

Personally I've always argued that it was a fundamental mistake for ISPs ever to offer Wifi themselves, rather than leaving users to source dedicated third-party access points.  ISPs are, on the whole, reasonably good at doing what it says on the tin: providing internet service across wide area networks to a wired router with a known configuration.  As soon as they added WiFi to their own-brand budget hardware they lost almost all ability to control the client-side service environment and consequently set themselves up to be the target of user disappointment and frustration until the end of time.
