TP-Link AC2100 - FTTP Setup

I've just purchased the TP-Link AC2100 to replace the standard router that sky provides. I have fibre to the premises (FTTP) and want to connect the new router to the ONT directly. When I try to set this up I have issues configuring the router to authenticate with Sky.

Does anyone know the appropriate settings to specify? I believe it needs to operate in "Wireless Router" mode in stead of as a modem, but beyond that I'm pretty lost. At the moment it seems to restrict my connection speed to ~2MB!!

Please help!!

With FTTP the ONT is the 'modem' (modulator-demodulator: a device which changes the nature of the signal being carried, so in this case an  electrical/optical conversion)

Re: TP-Link AC2100 - FTTP Setup

Thanks @TimmyBGood

Im also trying to determine the right router settings to use when I set it up so that I can connect to the internet but also so that sky doesn't drastically restrict my network speed. Any ideas? I've seen all manner if posts about MER, Option 61, ipv6 and other stuff which I don't really know how to make sense of.

@Jon+W+09

Pretty sure the VR2100 loses the MER options when the device is in 'wireless router' mode, so you'd need to connect via the IPv6 method you've seen in other posts; then IPv4 can piggyback off of that.

Re: TP-Link AC2100 - FTTP Setup

@Skull+Treatywould running in modem mode work if I only have an Ethernet cable coming out of the ONT? Do you have any steps you could share for the setup or settings?

TP-Link routers dont seem to work well on Sky. TP-Link themselves are quite scarce on information about whether they support DHCP option 61

As @Skull+Treaty mentioned the dhcp option 61 is purely there to serve its own dsl modem. This appears to get lost in wireless router mode as the wan now becomes the ont.

The dhcp v6 pd option is hit and miss (mainly miss)

Tp link were meant to have released a beta firmware to address the pd compatibility

That's super frustrating!! So it sounds like it's not possible to make this router work with Sky FTTP?!? I had such high hopes for a better signal throughout my home but now it seems like I'm stuck with reverting the the basic router sky provides

You could put it in AP mode and connect it to the Sky hub. Or you could get a Netgear, Asus etc.

Re: TP-Link AC2100 - FTTP Setup

I have just bought one of theses routers today as well. BUt I am having trouble setting it up, I am getting asked for the Sky login and password on the setup page. Is it a standard login?  I have tried to call Sky but cannot get to speak to a human. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have fibre and am connecting via a telephone line.

I have seen this coment on another post but it doesnt work for me

  • Select Sky(MER)_VDSL from the ISP list. Make sure it’s this one, as this is Sky fibre. The other Sky option in the list is for Sky Broadband and will not work for fibre connections.
  • In the username field, enter abcdefgh@skydsl
  • In the password field, enter 1234567890abcdef

@Peterez

Are you based in the UK or Ireland, and what broadband package do you have?
