Re: Speaker tests on you tube - anyone else getting no bass sounds?

@Joe-Bow q Same, on the whole I am quite happy with the way sound. Would I want to take a chance and have a replacement, no I wouldn't.

The sound should be rich on the Dolby LFE test if it isn't then I'd say get a replacement.

The LFE doesn't seem to draw from just the one bass speaker.

Re: Speaker tests on you tube - anyone else getting no bass sounds?

@Jayboy1990 But the only thing I've got to compare it to is my old Yamaha sound bar with passive (aggressive) subwoofer, and my Sonos Beam with two Play 3's as surrounds.

To my ears, Glass sounds very good, The Lost Symbol a good example for me where the bass was really effective.  I'll be viligent with it, but presently don't see the need to replace, unless Sky can come up with a reference test video and it fails any sound/bass test on that.

@Joe-Bow  I have a Yamaha YSP-1600 that I used to use with Q.

I am going to see what the tests do on that one.

Re: Speaker tests on you tube - anyone else getting no bass sounds?

After looking around YT, doesnt yet Support more than 2 channels, 5.1 is only support on certain Tv's but can't find if the glass is included in this, i'f pretty recent so not sure if it will be on the list. likewise 5.1 from YT is pretty recent (this year) so it's possible the app doesnt pass though LFE yet.

what we need is a known exeternal film or Computer plugged in playing a downloaded file that is known to be a proper Atmos test.

I'll be pluggin in my PC tonight to test but will also find a Atmos test as well as LFE test and i'll post here.

@Paul+Siwek

I have tested via my connected PC and also a Fire Stick 4k Max and on both occassions, still no LFE. You can clearly hear the left, right and centre being played but the LFE test produces no sound.

Glad I'm not the only one having this issue, the extra bass didn't work, infact hardly any bass at all, have run the 2 tests in this thread, and yeah bass not working.

Just got off the phone to Sky, new unit is coming Tuesday, just hope this one works. What is interesting, when speaking with Sky, the operator stated that they are not aware of this issue, and this was the first call she's had about it! Do they even read these forums?

Re: Speaker tests on you tube - anyone else getting no bass sounds?

Right, just been into the sky booth near where I work and tried the 5.1 dolby tested linked earlier in the thread, not a peep from the Glass Tv on the LFE channel. Tried the second one and a very slight muffled sound came out, not at all rich or loud.

This leads me to think that it's more than likely an issue with you tube although I would be delighted to be proved wrong.

I've got a bit of time tomorrow at home when the family aren't around so will do some more investigations and will be interested to hear how other people get on also!

I will probably wait until after the next software update before calling sky.

it's more the fact that my bass boost setting makes zero difference so wondering if the subwoofer speaker is goosed or just a software bug.

Re: Speaker tests on you tube - anyone else getting no bass sounds?

This thread has become more confusing at the moment, clearly YouTube isn't a reliable source.

Also, I have been to a store and the units they had there are both rubbish for bass and I see somebody else has done the same.

I think this could be more a case of expecting too much - or something needs addressing within the software or it's a batch issue and Sky shiuld investigate and recall for a replacement program.

Let's see what happens after the software.

personally Sky sorted mine yesterday with resets etc.

Re: Speaker tests on you tube - anyone else getting no bass sounds?

Hey all,

I've been following this thread closely as I'm too miffed with the base performance. I've tried the Youtube videos and as far as I'm aware they are pointless as nobody official can confirm they work. I've read and was told that Doby ATMOS and UHD is not supported on apps such as Disney and Netflix used from the Glass unit directly only from plugged in devices. Not sure how accurate this is but may explain why the YouTube tests don't work.

I'm currently waiting for Sky to confirm a replacement but what I'm really keen to know is whether this is just our expectations that need managing? I was previously running a home cinema system on Sky Q with a total output of 1200w so I'm used to great base and sound. Whilst I'm not expecting the Sky Glass unit to match my home cinema system I do expect it to meet their claims of "Sonic Boom", "An epic subwoofer is designed in. You won't see it. But you'll hear it. And feel it. With rich, deep bass, Sky Glass just raised the soundbar." here https://www.sky.com/glass/picture-sound?irct=glassHome-glass-pictureSound. It's their words not mine and they make it sound amazing. IMO it does not live upto their claims, what do you guys think?

Re: Speaker tests on you tube - anyone else getting no bass sounds?

@InFlux I've got to say I've been really impressed with the bass on mine, but what I don't know if things like positioning of the TV help mine.

Being diagonally in  a room corner with the walls and space behind it may have an impact on how effective it is, but you'll never replicate on the Glass Tv with your previous setup, so this is why you may find bass from Glass thoroughly underwhelming.
