Re: SkyGlass Awful

Being honest Sky glass isn't worth it imo. If you break down your contract cost and work out how much your paying for the TV. You would be better off buying a TV and subscribing to Sky Q. You would have a better TV and Sky Q.

Plus Sky Glass is terrible for gamers and a huge percentage of people including myself have a games consoles in their living room. I don't know why the Sky Glass doesn't have an option to switch a HDMI port into peformance/gaming mode. What this does is it lowers certain display enchancements so it can render frames faster, lowering the input latency. In a less nerdy way of explaining things. It lowers the quality so it runs faster.

Tbh without a Sky glass subscription the TV is basically a giant paper weight. Its a huge buzzkill not having a performance mode and being limited to 60hz. Its not a bad TV if your only using it for TV. But you can buy a decent 4k TV with all the other bells and whistles far cheaper then what Sky is offering it for. And you would be able to use it for gaming aswell.

Re: SkyGlass Awful

@CnPx  IMHO, Sky don't really care if the TV isn't for gamers.  Sky care about content and subscriptions.

Regardless though, if you want Sky Glass you have to have the TV, it really is as simple as that presently.

If you've already got a good TV then stick with Q.

Sky win either way.

HI @CnPx , really couldn't disagree more regards the "terrible for gamers" comment..

I've had the TV since launch, and id say its probably used 50% for gaming at the moment via a XBox series X, i get what you're saying though regards a game mode and limited to 60hz, but i've found it to be more than capable even without these two,  visually looks great, plays smooth, and online with no ( in my eyes ) visible lag.

My son has an xbox set up in his room, connected to a gaming monitor , with 120hz / gamemode, but i often find him playing on the glass set up for the big screen appeal, and he finds multiplayer COD / Halo all good, as do i,.

as said, cant disagree it would be good to have both, and it would benifit from it, but for an all rounder it does very very well.... imo obviously lol.

@M3rk  This is good to hear.  I know you've mentioned this a few times now and it's good that the experience is still good.  I'll hopefully get mine setup soon on the Glass TV to take a look.

Re: SkyGlass Awful

Hi @Joe-Bow  , the only issue at the moment, for me is generally Dolby vision, something is just not right following the software update and then the roll back, and how it now produces the DV picture, whether through netflix/disney/apple or the XBox.

but as said turning the DV settings off in the xbox, keeping the HDR boxed ticked ( in the xbox ) , the picture and gameplay is great !!

Re: SkyGlass wish I hadn't have bothered

The only reason I kept this was because I'd already told my Son he could have my 49" 4k UHD Curve when I got the glsss. Sky told me it was good for gaming and its definitely not. I'm using the PS5 and gaming looks like the ps3. Very disappointing but sky did tell me that as its the first rollout they will do regular updates and will most likely include a gamer setting... time will tell.

You can tweak the settings but still doesn't compare to game mode at all.

I do like the surround sound feature built in around the TV, very crisp but something I have to purchase separately for £5 per month.

I also had to purchase the facia separately which really surprised me. Why don't sky include that in the package, and £49.99 for the 55" is crazy considering its a strip of material covered plastic with a magnet strip to hold it on... saying that, ot foes enhance the look if the tv, but still should be part of the tv and not purchased from another company who supply them. I feel this tv may end up in my other Sons bedroom and I'll have to fork out for a tv that does what it says on the tin... which includes gane mode.

Re: SkyGlass Awful

I have cancelled SkyGlass and gone back to SkyQ as cannot get CNN/ Al Jazeera/RT News/ NHK network or any foreign channels

They don't tell you that when it is being sold to you

Anyone research before you buy. I did it before unpacking and activating

@nanniemck

Sky publishes both a Glass channel list and a list of channels not currently available here:

https://www.sky.com/help/articles/tv-channel-list-sky-glass

However it's not made prominent in the Glass advertising or order process.

@nanniemck  First hit on Google takes you to the channel listing for Glass.

And that takes you to this:

This information has been freely available for months now and really isn't difficult to find.

@Joe-Bow

I suspect that as with other aspects of Glass, many people are assuming it's an 'upgrade' to Q, and so will be carrying all the broadcast channels.

Re: SkyGlass Awful

@TimmyBGood  True, and even the questionnaire for the playlist mentions an "upgrade" to Glass from Q which I pointed out to MarkBR in the closed channel with regard to getting it changed.

Still, reviews are not thin on the ground now, Google is  everyone's friend these days, and if you can find this forum you can certainly search on it to see if anyone else has had the same questions that you have.

I can't quite work out if the poster I replied to either did their research or not as the final sentence doesn't quite make sense.  Either they didn't research it beforehand and only did after they got the product, or they did, got the product and then sent it back.  Maybe autocorrect or a typo has somewhat garbled the steps they took.

Re: SkyGlass Awful

I have now got used to sky glass and quite enjoy it. I was one of the first users, waiting a while for it because I can't get a signal for sky in the usual way. Early glitches like turning itself off seem to have been resolved. From my point of view there are two issues that need to be resolved. Firstly the playlist. I can't delete from the playlist and random programmes appear. Some disappear, so it's not fit for purpose at the moment. Second is the lack of my5 app for channel 5. Silly that we don't have this. I'd be interested to know if sky are addressing these issues.

Re: SkyGlass Awful

I feel there's something going around in the back round and the more I look into it the more I find out more.

For example. I play with the series X and it's reported the response rate is 60ms+. Which is v high especially coming from pc gaming.

However it feels more 30ms. (reason why I've played with a 60ms responce panel before and you could move the stick and back before it would recognise.) I feel it recognises it's a Xbox plugged in and does something.

I've also noticed when watching uhd movies the TV settings mean very little. Image is much darker in comparison to the settings I have set. Certainly try watching star trek. Had them on 2 different sources and it looked better on the Xbox.

Certainly worth switching tv to sport and listen to how the audio changes. I can't work it out as there are no settings to change to have the same sound as sports.

Personally I feel the settings are a mess.

Re: SkyGlass Awful

hi @M3rk , not yet.  It's still trapped in my game room that's being used to dump stuff in while the building work goes on.  Shouldn't be too long now though.
