From what I've read, there is no way to use a external amp, there is no output on this tv, only input, as with the boxes you plug the hd cable from box to amp, then your output hd to your tv, there is barear@e on the back of glass, so if you have a surround sound with bells and whistles including atmos, it's useless for sky tv, fine for your other inputs blue ray, games console, on top of which if you want the bells and whistles on tv, you need to pay extra, I think sky need to look at this, seeing as 90% of sky isn't available in UHD/HDR or Dolby atmos.
@mozzer146 the HDMI 2 port has earc on it so outputs sound through that

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@mozzer146 you are incorrect as @Laing1 says there is an eARC (extended Audio `Return Channel) capability built in to HDMI2 which means you can connect to any AV amp or sound bar that supports ARC or eARC on its HDMI output.
There is no optical output which does limit connection to older kit and you cannot connect to Sky's own discontinued Sound Box.

If an external sound system has the ARC function, then there is no reason why it shouldn’t work by connecting it to the ARC HDMI port on the Glass box. The main issue is the absence of volume control that would normally be available on the tv remote of other tvs but not this one. I don’t think people would be happy having to have two remotes to hand every time they watch the box – Glass remote for all Sky functions and your AV System remote just for the volume.
Anyway, I feel this is just another in the long list of software/firmware issues that no doubt will be addressed in the near future.
Sadly I have just cancelled my Glass subscription completely – tv and all and have had my Sky Q re-instated. If it was just me, I would have soldiered on with it until the problems are fixed, but the patience of other family members has dictated otherwise… However, I will give the nice Sky lady up north 10 out of 10 for assistance. Cancelling one subscription and reinstating the other took no more than an hour and that included killing the Glass contract and re-enabling my Sky Q complete with all previous discounts.
It definitely pays to be nice…..

The eARC receivers are backward compatible with ARC - so in case you have a modern amplifier capable of 4K it would also work with older TVs having just ARC output but not the other way round. Unfortunately hence I cannot use my 1080p Samsung Home Theatre with the Glass eARC signal - the receiver is simply not recognised by the Sky Glass.

Just purchase an ARC Audio extractor and plug it in to your Glass HDMI 2 port marked eARC . The extractor converts and outputs the audio signal to Optical - Coaxial - RCA and 3.5 headphone jack.
I had my old SKY Q box connected via HDMI and optical to my Onkyo TX-SR607 so it was just a matter of unplugging the and discarding the HDMI input used on the Onkyo for SKY Q leaving the optical connected with the other end plugged in to optical output on the extractor. The extractor uses USB for power but you will have to source a separate USB lead to power the extractor as the Sky Glass uses a USB C instead of the full size connector so you need a USB C to USB Micro short lead to keep it all tidy.
You can swich output between external / HDMI eARC in glass settings > picture and sound > sound
I must say the Glass sound is very good on it's own but lacks bass, however the sound coming through via the extractor to my old Onkyo is truly amazing.

Hi do u have make of the ARC Audio extractor
And how its all connected up
20 Nov 2021 09:28 PM
Here's the unit on Amazon
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0892BVB32/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Comes with the HMDI lead you need plus optical lead and usb power lead depending where you but it
Just plug the hdmi to input on extractor and into HDMI 2 on Glass the use the optical lead from optical out on extractor to a channel on your Onkyo you've assigned to optical, Power it by it's USB or from back of Glass from it's USB C. You will have to enter settings on glass > Picture and Sound > Sound > Select HDMI eARC instead of internal speakers

Thanks for ur help. Appreciated I get that end of month as we're new TV being delivered by sky as there confused why I'm not getting there dolby atmos and etc,
Strange that it can turn it out but can't do sound through it. Pos we're it's missing the optical port
20 Nov 2021 09:49 PM
Out of interest how do you know you're not getting dolby atmos from the glass?
20 Nov 2021 09:56 PM
When I rang them up about amp issue, due to me not checking before hand 🤣.
They said go into settings and try selecting dolby atmos I said we're would I find that she asked me to read out what in setting I did she like there should be option for the dolby atmos experience as u got the package. I said no so she got me to test the sound on the TV which I did and speaker on the top u can hardly hear. So she spoke to the tech side they said send new TV. What's confusing them is my onkyo is connected up and when u turn TV on it powers the amp up but can't select it on TV for output,

I have the same issue, I have a Denon app that's connected to my Sky Glass TV via the eARC HDMI out to the input on the amp but there's no sound and it's not getting detected when I try to select eARC HDMI as the speaker source. I hope the TVs not a duff one as it took me an hour to set it all up!
