Sky Q Router issues / log date

Hi,

Having some issues with my sky Q router.

The router shut itselfoff the other night for a good few hours unexpectedly. I was online at the time and tried shuting the pc down but even after rebooting the PC and the router the internet light was a still a solid orange. It forced me to shutdown and log off when I woke up in the morning the green light had come back on. How long it was off i dont know.

05/11/21 is todays date but the logs have a date of 1970/01/01 with a lot of messages I have never seen before such as

eth1 (Int switch port: 6) (Logical Port: 6) Link DOWN.
syslog: [24492.226000] eth1 (Int switch port: 6) (Logical Port: 6) Link UP 10 mbps full duplex

Why is it 10  mbs up? Then later 1000 mbs

Why has the date changed? I also ran a DNS test and its given me a lot of red error message after compleating and all the results shown are all from the US with no GB unlike other images i have seen of this program in use. Are these conected.

Could anyone explain to me what is going on and why the date has changed and what the log messages mean. i have looked in the past at the logs and have never seen these types of messages.

Playing games online has been choppy  lately would these logs be a reason why?  I noticed that the firmware is out of date too.

Model ER115

Firmware Version 2.22.3007.R
The above is not the latest firmware with the sky site say version 2.22.3027.R or 2.22.3028.R are the latest.  How would i update this?

why has DNS benchmark given such bad results are these problems tied together?

Thanks

That will be down to openreach maintenance, they do it overnight to avoid as much disruption as possible.

The date defaults back to that date before a line connection is established and the time server is able to sync. If you read ahead in the logs you can see the date correct itself.

This is jus ethernet negotiating the link speed between router & device. If your device goes to sleep or you put it in hibernation then network cards often go into low power mode and run at 10mbps. This can also happen when starting up a PC when it goes through POST. Once the PC is running again it goes back to the fastest available speed which is 1000mbps.

There is nothing wrong with your DNS, its normal for Sky's DNS servers.

Re: Sky Q Router issues / log date

@jamesn123

My PC is not set to sleep, i have turned any sleep option off and have its set to run at full power/speed as its ovc`ed. Even last night when the PC was shut off i was still getting theses messages in the logs.

22:55:57 syslog[48657.156000] eth1 (Int switch port: 6) (Logical Port: 6) Link UP 1000 mbps full duplex
22:56:19 syslog [48679.338000] eth1 (Int switch port: 6) (Logical Port: 6) Link DOWN.
22:56:24 syslog[48684.429000] eth1 (Int switch port: 6) (Logical Port: 6) Link UP 10 mbps full duplex
22:56:46 syslog [48706.584000] eth1 (Int switch port: 6) (Logical Port: 6) Link DOWN.
22:56:50 syslog [48710.634000] eth1 (Int switch port: 6) (Logical Port: 6) Link UP 1000 mbps full duplex

I have turned all Wake and power options off via the ethernet advanced settings

Why is this going up and down while i am trying to play games online. i have never seen these messages before when viewing the logs.

The firemware for the router is outdated how can i update to the latest version?

It would be wise to replace the LAN ethernet cable connected to port 1 on Sky HUb it looks like it is likely faulty.

Re: Sky Q Router issues / log date

Cant edit posts,

I was online playing games with above logs going up/down. I logged off at midnight and it went down at 2am.

I turned my pc on 30mins ago

Link UP 10 mbps full duplex
09:38:47 syslog [87232.236000] eth1 (Int switch port: 6) (Logical Port: 6) Link DOWN.
09:38:51 syslog [87236.285000] eth1 (Int switch port: 6) (Logical Port: 6) Link UP 1000 mbps full duplex
09:39:04 syslog [87249.419000] eth1 (Int switch port: 6) (Logical Port: 6) Link DOWN.
09:39:07 syslog [87252.460000] eth1 (Int switch port: 6) (Logical Port: 6) Link UP 1000 mbps full duplex

I have never noticed these messages before. How do i stop these messages for showing up in the logs. What is causing them?  i do not want anything to decide for itself to go to sleep.

@mae-3

I think i have a spare in the loft..  I can dig this out and try a new cable and see if this solves the issue.

It seems odd though for it to be the cable? It has not been touched bar the other night wheni picked the router up to reset it.

But i will switch it out and clear the logs and see what happens.

You cant update the firmware its done automatically by Sky in batches. The latest has only just rolled out and hasnt reached all routers yet. Theres nothing in the update that would fix any issue you are having anyway.

Regarding the cable, any cable or network card can go faulty at any time. If changing the cable doesnt stop it then try changing to using a different port on the hub. If it still happens then you need to try a known good PC as your PCs network card may not be right.

There was a brand new cat7 ethernet cable in the loft. I had bought it eariler this year to run it down stairs to where the Pc was. But didnt like the wires over the house so moved the PC upstairs next to the master socket.

I reset the ethernet driver back to default,  cleared the Sky router logs and shut down the PC and replaced the cable.  For the first hour i thought the problem solved.

What is busybox? and as you can see the up / down is still happening.

This time i have not made any changes to the driver advanced  settings.

So its not the cable at fault. I have only ever used Ethernet port one, so i can switch the cable to this and try port 2.  And i dont have another PC to test this issue.  Could it not be a faulty router?

I will clear the logs again, shut down the PC  and switch the cable over and see what this is like in a few hours time

Re: Sky Q Router issues / log date

Okay, Pc shut off. Cable switched from Eth1 to Eth2, log cleared and now the same messages as before, except the number has now changed  from 6 to 3

I will disable any power options within the ethernet driver and see if they continue although they was all disabled before i posted here and the issue was present.

Can I ask why you even care ? It really doesn't matter if this is showing in the log log your pc is off

@jamesn123

It does matter as its being logged for a reason and i want to know why. I dont want anything choosing to slow itself down.

Why has it gone up and down 4 times in under a minute and changed from 10 to 1000mbs

You stated it could be a fault with the PC eariler but no mention of a faulty router ?  This has not been happening till the other night when the router decided to shut itself down for an unknown amount of time. Unsure why it was shut down as shown on my first post i am far from the lastest firmware for this device. So it was not shutdown to update anything.

I know i get logs for the ip and time but these logs above are new and have only just started.

It can be the router but usually, the ethernet ports fail completely in almost all cases of faults.
