Sky Q Mini Box Ownership
When I purchased my Sky Q mini Boxes the first for £100 the 2nd for £50, I was told that I own the Mini Boxes, I was aware that Sky owned the main 2TB box.
Sadly I can no longer afford Sky and sadly have to cancel, I know the main box has to go back, but want to sell my 2 x Mini Boxes but I've read some discussions where people have been told Sky owns these, if this is the case why was I charged £100 and £50 the 2nd was half price so a £100. Still. I was told Sky owns main box I own Mini Boxes.
Thus I should be able to reset them and resell them.
Any Advice would be much appreciated, I've been with Sky 17 straight years and gutted I've got to cancel but can't afford the £103 and that's already discounted.
Best Wishes Alan

Re: Sky Q Mini Box Ownership
Sky own the main box, any mini boxes and the hub if you have one.
There are cheaper packages available - Sky don't just offer all or nothing.

Re: Sky Q Mini Box Ownership
The amounts you paid were activation fees. You don't own any of the equipment other than the dish. You can see this set out in your contract. It won't be up for debate.
As suggested, speak to them about getting a new cheaper deal, if you're anywhere near the end of your 18 month contract. Don't forget you can't just cancel if you're still within your minimum 18 month period.

Re: Sky Q Mini Box Ownership
Simple answer is No. You can't sell them, they need to be returned. Sorry.

Who were you told that by?
Selling any Mini boxes currently in your possession is doubly pointless: not only would Sky chase you for a non-return fee (which does not transfer ownership if paid) but any purchaser will also have a grievance when they discover they have not made a legitimate acquisition.

No you bought the soundbox, that is yours to keep, it si just the Sky Q equipment you don't own. Those are loaned to you, it is there in your T & C's you agreed to.

Re: Sky Q Mini Box Ownership
Hi @skaville Here is the relevant paragraphs of the T&Cs you greed to at the start. You paid an administration fee.
Ownership of equipment and the viewing card
• Sky Q boxes and the Sky Q hub are loaned equipment supplied to you at no cost and remain the property of Sky (or another Sky group company) at all times.
• You must not dispose of loaned equipment and we recommend you insure it against loss, theft or damage for the full replacement value.
• You must return or allow us to collect loaned equipment when reasonably requested to do so. This is the case even if it is being used by you to receive third party retailed content and you are responsible for managing any subscriptions with third parties.
• If you fail to return the loaned equipment you will have to pay a non-return charge. For more information about these charges go to sky.com/nonreturncharge.
• Payment of the non-return charge does not transfer ownership of loaned equipment to you and you are still required to return the loaned equipment to us following our reasonable request.
• If your Sky services end or are restricted we may disable the relevant loaned equipment to stop it from working. When we do this to a Sky Q box you won’t be able to receive any content including free-to-air channels or other third party content and services.
• If we have requested that you return loaned equipment to us and you have failed to do so we may take legal action to recover it from you.
• The Sky dish is not loaned to you and becomes your property to keep on installation.

Re: Sky Q Mini Box Ownership
If you got Sky over the phone, this point will also have been specifically read to you before you agreed to the contract.

Re: Sky Q Mini Box Ownership
I know this doesn't help @skaville but if you got the mini boxes at the point you took out SKY Q then the charge of £100 sounds more like an SKY Q installation charge but I may be wrong.
Of course, charges may have changed and the mini boxes may have had higher admin fees a few years ago - When did you get them ?

Re: Sky Q Mini Box Ownership
Sometimes a cancellation call can make a difference. You do need to be prepared to walk away, call and give notice. You will almost certainly get a call back with an offer. It may not be good enough or viable for you.... have you considered if you need all the channels you get? Sport/movies, etc, the cost may come down significantly without these.

Re: Sky Q Mini Box Ownership
Once you've cancelled, you will get a call after a week or two (during your 31 day notice period) asking if there is anything they can do to help you stay. That's where you can have the conversation about cost.

Re: Sky Q Mini Box Ownership
I was always under the impression that the mini boxes were owned by the end user. To go off how sky word things, they refer to it as a mini box, the T&C's you've quoted don't mention a mini box, just Q box and hub. Mini boxes aren't loaned equipment, they are purchased equipment. I've never heard an advisor refer to a mini box as a Q box. So I'd argue that their wording is incorrect

Re: Sky Q Mini Box Ownership
@Mikewebb All Sky Q equipment must be returned, that is very clear in your contract. A Mini is exactly that Sky Q Mini.
Not sure why it's still being debated as the info has been provided already.
