Re: Sky Q Mini Box Ownership

Hi @Mikewebb

Here is the relevant costs (current) for not returning your loaned Sky Q Mini boxes etc. You should note the last paragraph. Even paying the return fee does not transfer ownership.

What you'll be charged

The charge depends on what equipment you haven’t returned to us:

  • Sky Q 1TB box - £115
  • Sky Q 2TB box - £135
  • Sky Q Mini box - £50
  • Sky Q Hub/Sky Broadband Hub - £50
  • Sky Broadband Booster - £35

You’ll be charged for every piece of equipment you don't return. For example, if you didn't return a Sky Q 2TB box, two Sky Q Mini boxes and a Sky Q Hub, you would be charged £270 in total.

Good to know: Paying a Non-return charge doesn’t buy the equipment, it’s just a cost for not returning. It will still be Sky owned and we’ll still want you to return it.

@Mikewebb If you look at this link https://www.sky.com/help/articles/charges-for-not-returning-sky-q-equipment you'll see the items you have to return (including Sky Q Mini Boxes) and the non return charges for Sky equipment (which includes Sky Q Mini for £50).

Re: Sky Q Mini Box Ownership

I understand that I don't own my sky Q equipment and if I cancelled sky I would have to return it .

so why does Sky keep sending me invitations to pay £9:a month via Donestic and General to cover repairs to the equipment if it goes wrong , that I don't own .

surely if my sky at equipment goes wrong it's for Sky  to repair or replace it , not me .

id like to know who repairs or replaces it if it proves faulty

@GraemeRW Sky have to replace it if it is faulty or developes a fault the Sky protect from domestic and general would only really cover for accidental damage which a lot of home insurances would cover any way

@GraemeRW Sky will repair it foc. Sky Protect is endorsed by Sky but is a policy run by Domestic and General. It allows for a few extra items to be covered and covers accidental damage as well. I have my iPhone and iPad inclusive and it also offer engineer visits for faulty equipment. They claim that if an engineer can't visit the next day if reported before 1600, they will refund a week of your subscription fee. They are actual Sky engineers as well.

Re: Sky Q Mini Box Ownership

That's useful to know . Domestic and generals £9 a month is a lot considering home insurance covers most other  items .

It would be good if Sky added to their letters inviting people to pay this insurance subscription , that they are responsible for repairing or replacing their sky Q equipment and not Domestic and General

Because it makes money for D&G, and Sky get to licence them the branding and sell them subscriber contact details (sadly permitted under GDPR).  Repair/replacement under Sky Protect may be somewhat more rapid than calling Sky directly, and the dish / LNB / dish cabling is covered too which isn't strictly the case with a Q contract.

Would also be good if D&G cold-callers didn't claim to be 'from Sky' at the start of their scripts, which has always really wound me up...
