One last question I'm clear. Do I need to let the recording finish for the resume function to operate properly, or is it sufficient to just stay off the channel?

Just stay off the live channel @Bill1968 

You can start watching the recording and resume at will provided you do not catch up with live TV or view the channel live

BTW Welcome to SKY Q - it can take a little getting used to after SKY HD 

It does have a few quirks and don't be afraid of asking here if there is something that you are not sure of.

 

Some things are quite likely to  have been asked before so it can also be useful  searching the discussions which may help 

 

P.S. Please don't ask about reminders as they are not implemented onSKY Q and a few here seem to get a little grumpy if people ask how to set them on Q
