Good afternoon,
Purchased a new gaming router only to find out it doesnt replace my sky hub as it doesnt have a dsl port.
1. Am i allowed to throw the sky one away and get a third party compatible asus modem router that works with rt ax86u and sky fibre?
2. Or is there a way that the sky hub can work with ax86u?
Im on sky fibre and game using ethernet but have other devices that use wifi. But my main concern is enhancing my gaming experience.
Hopefully one of lovely clever people can stop me pulling my hair out.
Many thanks.

Just checked, at the very least ax86u can be flashed with asus merlin firmware to reveal client ident . So my plan for you draytek vigor 130/166 depending on your package directly connected to rt ax86u. Neither sky hub or ds ac55u have a modem bridge mode that you require

Don't throw the sky hub away you'll need it for diagnostics. The router you have will not have dsl because it is not a modem. Generally these routers require a seperate modem such as draytek vigor 130 for superfast or draytek 166 for g.fast.

Thanks for getting back to me. I'll run my plan by you, tell me what you think. Im thinking of purchasing a dsl-ac55u or better and using rt ax86u in mesh. Or would this be overkill??
Thanks for your advice

The ax86u needs to be the one directly connected to a modem to fulfil its full potential as a wifi6 gaming router. At this point you can use aimesh on 86u to to configure any subsequent mesh. Still strongly advise the draytek options what package are you on superfast, g.fast or full fttp fibre. Also it would be handy to see the setup screen of ax86u to confirm that it is indeed compatible with sky client identifier option 61 authentication

Thanks!! getting closer to the prize. Just on sky fibre 76mbps superfast I believe. So just get a draytek vigor 130 and plug into rt ax86u? For the record this is all new to me lol.
Is it easy to flash??
Thank you again for your knowledge. Best place to purchase draytek?

It might not need flashed depending what details are requested on installation. If you come across client identifier option 61 on native firmware then you'll need to flash it. Just give us a shout when you get draytek 130 and we'll walk you thru setting up modem bridge on draytek and fields required for asus 👍

Apparently draytek vigor 166 is both vdsl2 and g.fast hence more expensive. You can get 133 on amazon £64 used - like new
