Re: Playlist refresh now live.

@Deedee36

A new program added goes into most recent and sits there.

The latest episode should move that program to the front of the most recent list once available. If you have another new episode of a different program 30 mins later that will move to the front. But in reality this is not what is happening, it nearly works this way but, well doesn't!

In tandem once you've watched a first time episode of a Program from the most recent the system now knows to add future episodes into the continue watching rail. So the continue watching rail will update with new episodes from your most recent that you have started previously watching or if available the next episode in the series. Dare I say like a "recording" and series link.

But, if you watch an on Demand that you don't add to your playlist the system assumes you then want to watch all episodes of the series or box set whether you do or don't and adds it to continue watching,  frustrating because it's not easily removed.

To get rid of these rogue unwanted episodes you have to locate the final episode in the series or boxset and start to watch it then fast forward to the end to remove it. This is more tricky if a program is across multiple app providers. BBC, Gold, Dave etc.

* A program / film will remain in your playlist. Most recent until you remove it even if 100% watched. It will disappear if no longer available, I believe.

Hope that helps. Black Friday Sky deal a months supply of valium with every Glass & Streaming product. 🙄

If you go into each sub section of the playlist TV, Films etc. Then they are listed in alphabetical order.

Re: Playlist refresh now live.

Not sure if this is an update or historically I havent noticed, but since the UI refresh, when "continue watching" a show or picking from Playlists, it now always picks the UHD version on iplayer , before am sure I'd have to go in manually and choose it, am finding the update quite positive really , not that I had any real issues with it before 👍.... that's just me though 😁

I watched SAS Rogue Hero's a few weeks back and from the then Play Now rail it selected UHD in iplayer. Have to agree this is a positive.

@M3rk it was an excellent series mainly based on fact. It's well worth watching and as It says at the beginning of each episode the more unbelievable things are mostly true.

One of the characters portrayed in the series is Sgt Reg Seekings who I met a few times in Rhodesia where he was a farmer after WW2.  Besides being a founding member of the SAS in 1941 he was also the founder of the Rhodesian Police Anti Terrorist Unit (PATU) in about 1965.  I was a Police Officer and member of PATU during the 1970s.

Re: Playlist refresh now live.

Other than the 'most recent' not actually working as it should, the biggest annoyance is the continue watching functionality!  Granted, if you start watching something it makes sense for it to fall into this rail BUT I don't want the series link to continue in that rail unless I have specifically added it to the play list!

I may watch the first episode and decide it's not for me but, because I've watched it I then need to search the series to fast forward the last episode to remove it from continue watching!

All in all, it's a step forward but, in reality these things are not thought through in their entirety and implemented as they should be!  It's really not rocket science as apparent with many other streaming platforms.  Just seems to be something the team cannot get their head round.  Surely these people watch TV themselves and should understand what's required?

Totally agree.  Most frustrating part of Stream.  All we need is "Mark as watched" and "Remove from list" options and it would be fine.  I could cope with it randomly adding things if I can easily remove it.

Re: Playlist refresh now live.

@Anonymous  My otherhalf added the series The Whit Lotus, and didn't want to carry on watching it having only watched half, and you are right, if you go to 'Continue Watching' you have to faff around in the manner you describe to remove it,

However if you go to 'Playlist' and find the show ie in 'TV shows in this instance, click on it and it will ask 'Continue S1:E1'  Of the  next option is 'Remove Series' i can confirm this works a treat, and immediately removes it from both the 'Playlist' and 'Continue Watching' tabs

It really is an impressive piece of kit, and we wouldn't dream of ever going back to Q,

As always just my views, but hope they help, happy viewing.

Re: Playlist refresh now live.

Well, spoke to soon, although the show has disappeared from the 'Playlist' it's reappeared in 'Contine Watching' 😱

@Freddieboy69

The only way to remove from continue watching is find the last episode FF through to the end. This works most of the time but if the episodes are many like Wheeler Dealers they can be out of sequence across several channels.

It's a nightmare but it can be cleared "eventually". All is needed is a remove option, what are the Sky programmers thinking!

So todays issues for me is I now have 3 shows stuck at the start of the most recent tab that have all been watched in full months ago they have just appeared over night and any of the shows I had playlisted from yesterday now sit behind them and not at the start, also I have 2 complete different shows stuck at the start of the continue watching that have reverted back to season 1 eposide 1 even though these have all been watched fully.

It appears to me that play now has just had its name changes to continue watching without any work done or bugs fixed.

I think it might be time for sky to contact apple and borrow some of their software engineers lol

It's still not right so hopefully the next update will clean it up further.

  • Playlist - Bangers & Cash has sat at the front end despite all being watched and up to date and new programs coming in that should have pushed it back sit behind it.
  • Some programs run eg. Series 1 - 10 and other 10 - 1 no consistency.
  • Contine Watching should be in the Playlist section at the top, leave on home screen too if they want but defo needs to be in playlist as you transition between continue and playlist it makes sense for them to be in the same sub section.
  • Continue watching needs an easy operation to remove unwanted episodes and or series, fast forwarding to the end of a program to remove it is not the answer.
  • Netflix is all over the place, sometimes you can add to playlist other times it just opens the app. Also can't play from playlist it just hangs with red circle of doom.
  • Discovery+ don't seem to even find programs when searching let alone add to playlist.
  • Disney+ you can add to playlist, does not update to continue watching neither does it update in playlist to show watched episodes or move up the playlist to identify new episodes available
  • Prime not sure what happens here sometimes an episode will arrive in continue watching only to disappear  and then 'maybe' reappear, there must be a bug with Prime.
  • Apple TV not used since the update so can't comment.
  • The terrestrial broadcasters and Sky controlled content seems to work as it should (except for Bangers & Cash, lol).

So, really it isn't all fine, it is still a faff, we shouldn't be happy with it because it's not as bad as it was and it needs some further urgent work. 🤞

This is another where it seriously can't be beyond the wit of man to work out which type of programmes should have the most recent broadcast listed first and which need to list in episode order.

In category a would be all sports and tv shows.

In category b would be stuff from Netflix where they drop a whole series at once, but only because they do that.

Programmes like The Old Man on Disney which was 'broadcast' every Wednesday should fall into category a.

In fact if I were in charge, everything would be in category a. Anyone that wants to go back to the start can still do so.
