What has COVID-19 got to do with it?

Recorded programmes  are received via the dish.
The sky boxes then communicate with each other on an internal Wi-Fi network that still works without your broadband router being connected to the internet or during an internet outage.

@Piesarus  Change a network that's been stable for years and for the majority of lockdown?

The common denominator is that we all started experiencing this issue around the same time - when the Amazon Prime update hit our boxes.

And how are my neighbours going to affect a fully wired installation?

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

@Anonymous  Spot on - there are many who would just ignore this issue and some may not be on the latest software (I had to forcibly update 2 of my minis).

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

Its true you have to think out the box. Some people will be i don't care some will be i can not afford the call will it cost some will sit and shout at the TV come on lol.

To say a Neighborhood to shut off there networks would or will make any improvements is wrong it will make no improvement to anyone.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

Here's a couple of my screen captures. Not quite as good as Geoffers1956 but they show exactly the same issue.

They both come from a recording of Strictly over Christmas, and are consecutive frames in the sequence

As you can see the second image is badly pixellated. This lasts for several frames before correcting itself.

Just to be clear, this is nothing to do with internet congestion. This is a local recording streaming from a hard disk in one room to a mini box in another room over a local network.

It is also nothing to do with WiFi congestion. The entire route from main Q box to the mini is hard wired with Cat5e gigabit ethernet.

This setup has been working flawlessly for over a year until early December, in line with a lot of others on here.

Live TV to the mini (also streamed over the same network) is flawless, so it's something to do with the way recorded data is transmitted which must be different from live data.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

I'm OOT. This forum is for people who want assistance from others in trying to resolve issues. Sadly this thread has become an echo chamber for those who have a narrative they won't have challenged. Good luck with the update theory.

Hi @RobJames  Try placing the Mini box from the top of the soundbar, and on to a flat surface, the case of the Mini box is designeded to dissipate heat from inside, the box maybe overheating on top of the soundbar?

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

@Anonymous  I lost interest in his comments due to the arrogance and tone of his posts.

His covid post stating a fully wired setup could be affected by what my neightbours are doing was a personal highlight for me though!

@Anthonyh1976 I don't understand I guess some are so hung up on there own opinions at what it is and feel so strongly about it being the cause yet to question your evidence but not there own im confused hehe.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

Hi everyone

im happy to try moving the mini box, but it never really gets that warm, and has worked in that location for over a year. When the Sky engineer called in December to have a look, he replaced the mini with a brand new one, and the swap had no effect at all. So it doesn't seem to be the mini itself. If anything, since the sound bar doesn't even get warm, and the box overhangs more than it would if it were standing on the shelf, if perversely has better cooling!

Clearly, something changed in Nov or Dec and has caused this.

The software update seems a common thread.

@RobJames  Have you tried setting the Mini box video output to 1080i ?
