Re: New 3rd Party Router - To Improve WiFi
@Skull+Treaty @mae-3 @cookiemonsteruk and: -
@jamesn123 - Thank you for last night it was much appreciated once more. You said earlier: - "As part of the setup you switch DHCP off on the TP-Link so from that point on you'd need to set a static IP on the PC to match the TP-Links default range"
I thought though that it would be easy - lol! Not for me. I thought the default range of the TP-Link modem was 192.168.1.xxx as this is different to my Sky's default range of 192.168.0.xxx
Ok so I went into "Settings" in Windows 10 - this screen shot shows I'm on Automatic: -
But when changing to Fixed, I get this and I don't know what the other settings ought to be after inserting an IP Adress: -
Can someone help please? I'm going for 192.168.1.xxx initially and if it should be 192.168.0.xxx then I can change it if I can't connect to the Modem. Thanks again

Re: New 3rd Party Router - To Improve WiFi
The other setting would be on a subnet of 192.168.1.0/24 subnet mask value 255.255.255.0 and gateway of 192.168.1.1, hope that helps. The DNS set to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for secondary.

@mae-3 - Hmmm Again I get this with those settings and there doesn't seem to be an option to insert the subnet mask value
Help!

Re: New 3rd Party Router - To Improve WiFi
Sorry, it's expressed as the prefix length which is 24 for the subnet mast of 255.255.255.0, eg: you enter 24 and that prefix length.

Re: New 3rd Party Router - To Improve WiFi
All ( @mae-3 @jamesn123 @Skull+Treaty @cookiemonsteruk )
WooHoo (I think lol!) - progress 😀
So with those settings I was able to assign my chosen fixed ip address in my PC
And yes I was then able to log into the modem! - Thank you again @mae-3
Once more the way to set it up (this time as a pure router) was different to the way shown in the link, but nevertheless I persevered and this is the current Status screen, which hopefully is now correct: -
I had inavertently selected the Sky_VDSL (MER) option by mistake so quickly changed that to Sky_VDSL and after hunting around for "Internet Options", I added "Bridge" in the setup/Internet Connection Type and saved down. The Modem now appears in "Bridge Mode" with WiFi disabled.
Next I then reverted back to "Automatic (DHCP)" in my PC, moved the DSL cable back into the modem and the ethernet cable from my PC into the Asus Router and switched on. This now shows how the lights appear on the modem: -
Logging in to the Asus Router now shows its Status as follows: -
Now it shows "Your ISP's DHCP does not function properly, but at least we seem to be moving forwards.
How do things look now? Please can you tell me what screens are now needed for you to connect the Asus Router to the Internet - it is still showing a Red light on its front and I'm unsure what the comment means under 5 GHz-2 bottom right
Great thanks once more

Re: New 3rd Party Router - To Improve WiFi
You have a successful VDSL connection to the cabinet. So, can we see the WAN screen on the Asus ZenWiFi XT8 router. And when I've seen this message before it's likely that it all needs turning everything off for about 15 minutes and back on again, but that screenshot of the WAN settings would be useful just to confirm everything is fine?

Re: New 3rd Party Router - To Improve WiFi
Ooops, I should have changed the DHCP Query Frequency to "Continuous" - I'll await your thoughts first before going back in

Re: New 3rd Party Router - To Improve WiFi
Normal query frequencies should be fine, can you try switching the router and modem off for 15 minutes and back on again. One thing I noted is you have a space preceding the '|' symbol and a space after it in DHCP Option 61 field, these are white spaces that should not make a difference but may?
So, if it doesn't come up successfully after turning it off everything for 15 minutes, then remove the space before and after the pipe '|'. And you can change the query frequency to continuous but I think that is fine at normal for this router.

Re: New 3rd Party Router - To Improve WiFi
@mae-3 Ahh - there's a space after but not before. I shall amend once the router and modem are back up after closing down for 15 mins. I still cannot see the option to insert the MTU figure btw - Modem and Routers are now off.

Re: New 3rd Party Router - To Improve WiFi
The MTU is set upstream with an automatic IP DHCP client with Sky on Asus router and is only present when you have a PPPoE connection which Sky do not use in the UK, eg: there is no MTU to set with Sky as the ISP for Asus.
