Netgear RAX40 replacing Sky Hub FTTP

Hi All,

Hope you can help.

Im replacing my Sky Hub with the Netgear RAX40 which is supposed to be compatible but cannot get this to work with my Sky FTTP.

I have configured the WAN for DHCP and entered the details for option 61 and 60. I got these details from wireshark from lookin gat the packets when teh SkyHub was connecting and also cloned the MAC address.

Has anyone had any luck with any Netgear RAX routers?

Could anyone share screen shots of their configuration that has got these working?

Thanks

Dale

@Dale150181

The need to clone the MAC address has long gone.

Simply enter the string abc123@skydsl|abc12345 into the DHCP Option 61 field.

Looks right to me. Assuming you have Openreach ONT Port 1 > WAN port on the RAX40?

IP & DNS should be set to auto.

NAT Type is Symmetric.

WAN MTU 1500.

DHCP Query frequency continuous

Thanks James,

RAX is connected From WAN port to port1 on the ONT.

Can't seem to find continuous DHCP or NAT settings.

 A bit stumped

Assuming the Sky hub connects fine through the ONT?

I've just realised you probably want to try authenticating via IPv6 instead. On the router head over to IPv6 and configure it for DHCPv6 Prefix Delegation (PD). This should hopefully connect and then IPv4 simply piggybacks on IPv6.

Re: Netgear RAX40 replacing Sky Hub FTTP

Wonder if anyone has the same router or can recommend a WIFI6 router that allows static routes that they have successfully configured for Sky FTTC?

@Dale150181

I use the Asus RT-AX88U which performs fabulously and has the option to install Merlin firmware for more options.

Give IPv6 a go first though as that is the native way to authenticate on FTTP now

Re: Netgear RAX40 replacing Sky Hub FTTP

Thanks will try ipv6 tommorrow on the TP-link AX1800 I have.

I remember seeing ipv6 PD settings but they aren't on the RAX.

Cheers for your help!

The Netgear router should have. Check under Advanced > Advanced Setup > IPv6 then WAN.

Re: Netgear RAX40 replacing Sky Hub FTTP

Hi James,

I have the same problem, RAX40 connected to the ONT.

I have changed the IPv6 to DHCP.

I couldn`t find how could I change the NAT type. There is just Open or Secured NAT Filtering options.

I couldn`t find how could I change the DHCP Query frequency.

Could someone help me?

Thank you in advance!

Checking my previous posts it would not be the first time that dhcp option 61 authentication has failed on the rax40

The person in question went for asus rt ax56u which has the same specs as the rax40 at £110 . I have the asus rt ax58u at £139

A final attempt at dhcpv6 pd would be

Select ipv4/ipv6

Enable dhcpv6 dynamic on the wan

Enable prefix delegation/pd on the wan

Enable slaac/stateless for address creation on the lan

Sky Stream , Sky Superfast, SR203 router, Tp link td w9970 + Asus RT AX58U (backup), Xbox Series X, google home mini, LG 55 inch uhd tv, with Dolbyvision, samsung a5 2017 and samsung s21

If I get it right mark as answered
If I get it wrong humour me
If I say something you like give a thumbs up
