Openreach FTTP cable fitting exterior wall?

Hello All

Hopefully a simple answer to the following question:

I’m getting FTTP installed in a few weeks’ time and am looking ahead at where Openreach will need to drill their hole through the exterior wall in which to feed the fibre cable through to the interior ONT box.

Can anyone tell me if Openreach fits anything on the exterior wall where the fibre cable goes through? Is there any type of grommet or protective cover fit to the exterior wall or just a dab of mastic to seal the hole with the cable in place?

If they install a cover, does anyone know what size it is?

Many thanks

Doesnt tend to happen re the outside box. Two FTTP installs i've seen now just seal the hole with a bit of white sealant.

@TimmyBGood @Chrisee @jamesn123

Many thanks all for your replies.

The reason for asking is that a few houses around me have what looks like roughly lan 8"x8"x1" plastic panel covering where the cable goes into the house - which seems unnecessary large to me for the purpose of weatherproofing the drilled cable hole.  (Who knows maybe these panels are for something else?)

I guess I'll see on the day!

Cheers

@THX1138 the grey box is used to join the external fibre cable to the link to the ONT as explained in the video. Openreach are not known for their flexibility.

@THX1138

The grey (or white) box is the Customer Splice Point, which is where the four-core external drop cable ends: ours is white and 6" by 4", and contains a fairly complex fold-out plastic spool arrangement to house the bare fibre strands.  One core is fusion-spliced to a fibre pigtail (with the junction protected within the box), and it's that pigtail which enters the property: in our case under a small circular cover.

Re: Openreach FTTP cable fitting exterior wall?

I think I've answered my own question - sorry.

Below is a picture of the unit (known as a CSP Customer Service Point) that Openreach is fitting to the houses around us. So I assume I'll be getting one of these.

Thanks again everyone
