Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

Well I've had the new router for 24hours and I'm sadly impressed with it.

I've had some serious issues with the old router constantly dropping connection and sky wanting me to spend over an hour half on the phone to troubleshoot. I've been through the whole process before with it resulting in a new router and it working fine for 2 months.

this time I rung to cancel my contract, but I was still l had 6 months to go. I was given the option to 'upgrade' to the new router, but it came with a new 18 month contract, but that would include a 31day cooling off period.

I'm 24hours into the new router and my WiFi speeds have doubled in parts of the house. I'm still craving the higher speeds with virgin so I still may cancel, but I've not expirenced a drop out....yet.

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

Can anybody confirm if the new router deals with ivp4, better than the previous Q hub? Mine has issues with Sky Q hardwired & my tv over 5Ghz. Losing the address and not allocating a new one or renewal of existing IP address. The only way around this I’ve found, is to reserve the address in the router.

@atann the new hub runs the same firmware interface as the other Sky hubs so no change in DHCP as far as I can tell. If you tv is losing its IP address why not assign it a fixed IP address? Smart tvs do seem to have more issues with wifi than you would expect but fixing the IP address should help.

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

I switched my broadband from BT to Sky end of September. The small Sky Q router was installed.  From day one the WiFi coverage was inferior to my old BT Home Hub 5.  After my Sky Q was installed I had nothing but trouble using my Sky Q mini boxes.  They would constantly freeze and stutter.  Netflix was unusable.  After reading this discussion I asked Sky to send me the new Hub 4, but they refused without me taking out a Boost sunscription.  I argued that they should surely fix my broken system for free but they disagreed.  Finally, to have a working system for Christmas, I went with Boost and got the new Hub 4.  It's like night and day.  Full coverage, everywhere in my small house, Sky Q mini boxes working perfectly.  I've just complained to Sky and asked for my Boost subscription to be cancelled.  Let's see what they come back with...

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

I’ve all ready don’t that with my hardwired Sky Q 2TB V2, as it would be unable to find an IP address. The only solution was to reboot the router. If the tv is connected to ivp6, why does it think there is no internet connection?

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

I only set up my new router last night and as yet no problems with connection, speed seems a lot slower than stated but I think it takes some time to get properly tweeked? My only issue is my smart plugs, they wont set up, they worked fine with my old sky router, but when I try to connect them they say they want to be connected to a 2.5mh (i think) and the network is 5mh, is there a work around for this they are setup via woox app but cant find any solutions so far online?

@rogon to connect smart plugs often requires you to separate the two wifi bands and connect the plugs to the 2.4GHz band. Log onto the router and untick synchronise on the wifi tab then edit one of the SSIDs so you know which is which.

If you post your hub's stats someone should becable to help with speeds see here  Find your Sky Broadband router statistics

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

I currently have hub 3, my contract is up next month. Looking at Plus Net due to good deal & cheap BT Sport. How does Hub 4 compare to BT Homehub 6 in performance terms?

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

I would say the BT Hub 6 is better.

I am thinking of getting BT Whole Home wifi discs because the Sky Hub 4 is incapable of maintaining high speeds.

As soon as I go through to a different room to the Sky Hub speed drops from 140 to 80mb, gets worse when upstairs.

It doesn't help the fact that Sky Q mini also repeats the signal which is slower than the main signal from the Hub.

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

I wouldn't go to Plusnet - I started with Plusnet when I first got fibre broadband and they were okay for the first few years, but they speed capped all the time and their prices just increased and I could never seem to get a better deal, which is why I switched to Sky and I have been very happy since.

I have the new Sky hub 4, which I have found very good, speeds are good and I have not had any decreases in speed.

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

Is it possible to use the BT Hub 6 with Sky then?

@Sarah-Webster no you cannot connect a BT hub to any Sky broadband line. You can potentially use BT's Home wifi systems but they are issues with configuration especially if you have Sky Q boxes.

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

From what I have seen, the BT hub will only work with BT broadband!

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

It will work with Plusnet too. I’ll just get a Homehub 6 of EBay for £20. As I posted, I can get BT Sport from PlusNet on Sky in HD for £12.50 a month. Depends if Sky’s wholesale deal of BT Sports will be around the same price & in UHD.
