Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

I have one question now the speed and connection reach have been slightly boosted.

I have an Apple IPhone XS, at the moment under the sky q hub 3 it's doesn't offer mesh roaming.....

this means I have to switch WiFi on and off to reconnect if I move away from one hub and say get closer to a mini box or booster. It's a pain!!

does the new hub 4 or er203 have mesh roaming and does it actually work. If not I'm getting a nighthawk because I'm sick of signal drops as well

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

I have the new hub. The mesh network works as it did with the Sky Q hub. I did have to set it all back up again on my Sky Q box and mini.

@Shakira it works for me I have multiple ios devices that roam between the 3 Q tv box hotspots and sr203 without issue. There was a problem with roaming on newer iphones but thst was sorted in a previous firmware update to both the Q boxes and hubs. That said roaming always worked on my previous hub which was an er110.

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

@Shakira  Our apple devices seem to behave better with the new router and a single new booster (plus the sky q and 2 mini boxes) than they did with the previous mesh set  up.

@Granny+Julie unless you line is specifically set up there is no Sky VOIP service - the new service is only avaiable on a few exchanges atbthe moment. This is called SOGEA

Where you are connected to such a service the hub comes with relevant instructions - basically you lsndline plugs into the hub rather than a phone socket. You get a dialing tonecas normal.

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

Hi! I just moved home and I received this new router, I had the Sky Q hub. I'm trying to set the  Sky Q hub as a hotspot so the WiFi signal gets boosted, but I'm not succeeding: after pushing the WPS button in both devices they don't connect to each other. What am I doing wrong?

Many thanks!

Kind regards.

@Antonio.A you cannot use a redundant Q hub as a wifi hotspot it simply doesnt work.

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

Thanks! I misunderstood the information then, I'll buy a WiFi extender just in case I need it :).

@Antonio.A Personally I would not bother as the coverage is significantly better than the old Q hub and if you have the Broadband Boost and areas dont have wifi coverage Sky will fit a purpose made booster free of charge.

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

Thanks for the opinion :). I'm just setting things at home, probably I won't need anything more but there's a door next to the BT socket that blocks the WiFi signal so in the bedroom is a bit weak.

I'll try these days to move the router as much as I can and see how it's the signal in the bedroom. I don't have broadband boost so maybe in the case of needing a WiFi boost in will be better to buy something generic.

A different question, I've seen in old messages the last firmware allows to use custom dns addresses, but I can't find how. Can I set them directly in the router?

Many thanks!

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

Had the new hub for wbout two weeks now, without a doubt it's better than the old one, but one room in the house seems to be a black spot for WiFi. Only manage to get about 0.09mbps in it. Had an old bt extender that I'm using and it seems to work mostly, but disconnects a few times a day. Called sky about it, they said they would call me back. Haven't heard a peep out of them so far...

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

@Chrisee Yeah I will do. He did mention a booster but he couldn't send it out, it had to be with an engineer. Hopefully it will work properly if they do send one.

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

I’ve just moved to a new built and signed up with Sky broadband / talk SuperFiber after 20 years with BT at my previous place and no business with Sky.

I’ve been offered a VoIP phone line, which I provisionally declined for a traditional one as I may take up a monitoring alarm service in the near future.

Could anyone tell me what the advantages are of going for a SOGEA-based Sky VoIP service - as opposed to the traditional line? Thanks
