I have noticed that my WiFi speed is much better splitting the bands and connecting where possible to the 5GHz band. At least twice the speed.
If the bands are left synced you only connect to the 2.4GHz band so a lot of devices sharing (and my walls aren't thick so 5ghz should be the better option).
Seems like a good idea to split the bands to me, and my mesh network isn't showing any negative results by doing so.

Since setting it up yesterday, I've noticed a lot more stable, faster connections around the house & still getting full signal in back garden where previously I'd get one bar or switch to 4G so very happy with the upgrade. What is the voice light meant to be for?

Splitting the bands and connecting exclusively to the 5Ghz band will almost always yield higher speeds but will also mean less range

The voice light is for Sky's VOIP service that is coming where you ditch the landline phone and have a phone service through the router. It's usually combined with FTTP

Is there any evidence to say syncing the bands only allows for use of 2.4? I sync the bands as I just find it easier

When the bands are synced your device will be placed on the appropriate band. Only thing is some people find they dont get put on the 5Ghz band that often so they opt to split them and connect manually to it.

Pretty simple really.
5Ghz= Anything that is compatible with 5Ghz & that you want to have a faster speed and dont need the long range
2.4Ghz= Anything that isnt compatible with 5Ghz & that you want the range/reliability such as smart devices or devices that are far away from the router most of the time.

Sounds simple enough just our setup means we are not always near the router there is the front door and directly oposite there is stairs, the router is situated near the front door so behind is where the main room is etc, obviously doors and walls. Also to figure out what devices use 5ghz isnt always easy to find out

5Ghz can penetrate a few walls so if a device is mainly in your main room not far from the router then 5Ghz should be fine.
If you want to know if a device is 5Ghz compatible just look up its specification. If its WiFi compatibility states 802.11b/g/n then its 2.4Ghz only. If its 802.11ac then its 5Ghz compatible.

What I would say about splitting bands is that this new hub on BOTH bands transmit the same speed now, albeit if the 2.4ghz has the 20/40 option enabled.
I have still split my bands due to habit from the old hub but this new hub is head and shoulders better than the Q hub, about time most peope would say but it certainly works well.

Well all I can say is the new hub is working amazing and I have only had ski fibre superfast since Monday night and it connected on Monday at 67371 down and 19999 up but since wednesday it has now connected at 79999 down and 19999 up and noise margin is 6.2 and remains at this.
Speedtest.net shows my speed at 75 mb down and 18.5 up
The wifi is also excellent and no complaint at all. I have not split the bands as when I did this it caused the Q mini boxes to have no connection to the main Q box so I have put it back to the default set up and everything is working perfectly well once again.
I am using the Sky Q hot spots as I find it works great in our house as we have a few mini boxes covering the bedrooms and after a few speed tests we can easly achieve around 55 - 60mb in all rooms so super happy and also glad I moved over to sky fibre.

I used to use the white sky booster on my old hub for my mini s8nce the WiFi was no good in my bedroom. I thought I would try the new hub without the booster but the mini still has problems with the new hub. Can I use the old booster with the new hub?

@purpleparrotuk should work if it doesnt Sky should come out and fit one of the new ones if a Q mini is not connecting.
