Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

I have one of those sockets and I'm still getting dropouts on the new hub

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

Anyone with a SkyQ box, open dev options on it and turn off WiFi to it. Worked for me when my mother was having the connection/WiFi drops on her sky broadband.

@b2ax3y  What do you mean by open dev options?  Doesn't it need wifi on to send signal to mini box?

@rb38 Amazon devices like Firesticks and Alexas can be difficult to connect to many routers as this page explains the trick is to reboot the device before trying to connect as they tend to hold their settings in memory so wont accept new ones. Applies to many other devices with iPhones for example you often have to tell them to forget the connection and then add the device again.

If others have an issue installing their new hubs do start a new thread as posts can get missed in these super long threads.

Wifi reception in your home can easily affected by external interference from your neighbours networks and even your own wireless devices when you have made no changes so it sounds like what you have been told on that is correct.

After I had my new router fittedi had open reach come out too. The open reach guy also came out and fitted a new phone socket into my wall and got rid of the micro filter. He said that the micro filters aren't thst great. Once he fitted the new open reach socket I now get 63 mbs download. So if anyone is experiencing broadband dropping in and out try contacting sky and telling them that.

Thst is good advice as having a new master socket fitted can improve connection speeds especially where you have several different phone sockets in your home. Sky can also arrange to move the master socket to a better location which can be useful if your current socket is in a hall for example. They may charge around £65 to do this but it can be money well spent.

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

Yes, the tech engineer changed the frequency but it was still dropping out at times so had. to be hard wired.

It took almost a year and numerous engineers to get this sorted.

Sounds like a line fault which is nothing to do with your new hub. Suggest you start a new thread explaining your issue and include your hub's stats as explaned here Find your Sky Broadband router statistics

Those stats help forum regulars diagnose issues.

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

Openreach and Sky have checked line before with no fault found

@b2ax3y not sure why it was thought necessary on your mothers Sky Q set up but in general that is not advised. Even where Q boxes are hard wired by ethernet you should leave their wifi on if you have a Sky hub as the router.

That advice is given where the user if you have any other isp as third party routers can be confused by Q boxes have multiple connections but the Sky hubs are designed for the system.

@Loobs72 entirely up to you but it his highly unlikely its a hub fault.

Sounds like you have a history of line drops which sounds like intermittent interference which can be a pain to get fixed as the line tests normally until you get the fault.

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

Does this hub work like the Q hub before enabling the Q boxes to be hotspots using the mesh network?

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

if only i had a new one, was told it was on its way to me, not true.

told that i called customer at timesi did not,

told there is no order of a new hub.

told i had to wait untill my new q box arrived, which i was sold 2 hours after the new hub was ordered,.

sky did test after test on my internet or should i say lack of.

i have had to lend a friends dongal, but they say i have to buy a new card, joke as i am still paing sky for a service i am not getting.

i called them back at 20.45 last night with everything off in the house, now i have an openreach problem, which was not spotted by all the sky staff i talked to.

and now i have to wait, i am no good at doing that.

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

I found that the supplied password wasn't actually the same as that registered in the router so even though I was typing it in correctly it kept saying incorrect.

Easiest way to get round this is to use the WPS button and connect a phone or tablet to it, then go to 192.168.1.0, and go into the wireless menu, and see what the password it says, and I'd suggest changing it to the one printed on the router.
