Re: How does the playlist work?

At least we know why no review units were sent out.

They wanted as many people as possible to be hoodwinked into buying it before reviewers get their hands on units of their own accord.

Anyway, I don't know if I'm doing something stupid but when I log in to the ITV Hub in the Apps section of Glass I can't see any entries for Loose Women. I do a search and it's not there. If I try to find Loose Women in ITV Hub on my laptop it is there. Weird!

Probably because on Sky Glass it knows you've got a Scottish postcode?

Having set up for a couple of hours now and tried the Playlist, its not what I expected it to be.

As the ones who posted yesterday note, it really is shortcuts to the various catchup Apps by the other channels - not as I had hoped an actual programme sitting in my personal cloud waiting to be played.

As an indication of this news programmes such as Ch4 News are not in the planner - there is a gap. This I assume is that it would not be in the All4 App.

Sadly, even though it's App based Netflix and Amazon programmes cannot be added to the Playlist.

You can add netflix and amazon stuff to your playlist IF it is highlighted by sky on their home screen as something that is recommended.

Yeah, probably, who knows how these things work. Meanwhile Loose Women is still not available on Glass, but is available in STV Player on my latop. I don't know when it arrived on the laptop version, but I know it wasn't on the laptop version just after 3pm. Farce.

Re: How does the playlist work?

Having read through everyone's comments I am now so glad that I didn't say yes to Glass when an enthusiastic Sky agent rang me Monday afternoon on launch day.  The agent definitely told me that recordings were stored in the cloud after I queried how the playlist worked. Mind you, the penny should have dropped when he had to put me on hold to go and check with a colleague!

My reason for saying no was that my monthly subscription cost was going up by whopping 76% and that didn't include the £13 per month for the small Glass TV. Phew, lucky I refused after reading this joke Playlist implementation.

I have Sky Q and personally think it is excellent technology.  All I want Sky to do is scrap the minis and replace them with Puck technology so I can watch in UHD/Dolby Atmos on the second of my LG Oleds (my first LG has the Sky Q 2TB silver attached). Hopefully with all this bad feedback from disgruntled Sky Glass customers it will make Sky think again about adding this further capability to Q.

Re: How does the playlist work?

I just popped over to AVFORUM to see what they are saying about it over there.

Most people who have it are saying the TV and Sound are fine, but like here they are saying the Playlist is  a bit of a dogs dinner. And also like here, the people who don't have it yet are giving it a pounding after hearing the experiences of  people who already have it and have seen it in action. So again like here the same comments are appearing,  eg - some people are thinking of returning, some going to cancel orders. Others commenting that it's just a glorified version of Now TV.  Like here there people  over at AVFORUM are worried if their broadband will be up to it or not. Some people are pointing out that a lot of the problems or moans people are having cannot be sorted by upgrades, eg it is what it is. That view is consistant with posters on here. Then again it might be the same people lol.

For myself I am going to persevere for at least a couple of weeks more to see if anything improves, but given my gripes are all playlist related that is extremely doubtful. I very rarely watch TV "live", apart from live football. With Q  what I did was either watch recorded programmes at my leisure, or after the programme had started and I had missed the start, or wanted to FFW through the Ads. With my interaction with Playlist so far this is looking to be nothing like the painless experience watching recorded programmes on Q.

The problem is Q just wasn't designed to have the topology for that to be anything like a simple exercise.

@Anonymous Probably rights issues. Agreements in place with C5 and not with itv for example... Unfortunately this makes for a rather disjointed user experience from the sounds of it...

It's the Q customers having the biggest issues. I don't know why anyone would leave Q for Glass. I can't work it out.

You could argue it's the UHD to the pucks but surely most non-living room TVs aren't big enough to see that benefit and if you had Q, I'd guess the box was under your main big screen TV.

I would not want to have given up recording ability for the Playlist functionality. I always felt it was likely this would be app/catch up driven.

Coming from BT I'm pretty happy with it.

Re: How does the playlist work?

How long does it usually take for sky to break their silence on things like this? I mean the web is full of playlist queries/complaints.

Re: How does the playlist work?

Forgot to add to my recent post, dont know if it's just coincidence but my broadband has been playing up a few times this afternoon - eg some devices losing connection, and one of my WIFI booster discs seeming to randomly reboot. There was abolutely no issues yesterday though and I had Sky Glass then. My broadband is pretty stable, I have the 70mb Fibre with Bt Halo which is normally more than enough.  We do have numerous devices such as laptops, PC's Macbooks, phones which could all  grab a lot of resource on top of the Sky Glass that I've now added in to the equation, I wonder if Glass is the straw that broke the camels back. That is the only TV we use though.

Re: How does the playlist work?

@TimmyBGood I bow to your greater knowledge on Q's topology but Sky could be in a quandary here if their strategy is to dump the dish and encourage we 'Qs' to move to Glass. They need to do two things to achieve that - allow price bartering (cos I ain't paying a 76% uplift!) and allow true cloud storage for recordings, not just tags.

Re: How does the playlist work?

Watch from start doesn't work on terrestrial content from itv hub etc... you have to wait for it to appear on catch up, and for example tonight's 7pm episode of Emmerdale still wasn't available at 9pm.  It's a car crash.

Re: How does the playlist work?

Is that on all terrestial channels?
