Re: How does the playlist work?
I'm shocked by how poor the information is that is available before and after launch. People need to know what they are signing up for so they can make an informed buying decision. Maybe this is why we have not seen any detailed tech reviews...

Better than this one I'd say, but I still came out of that one disappointed and not seeing an upgrade option from my Sky+HD boxes which is disappointing ☹️

Re: How does the playlist work?
I really do hope I've been wrong since it was announced but I have thought that any cloud recording for linear channels was a bit far-fetched. There have been plenty of people, myself included, who were guided down the path of people adding anything and everything to their 'playlist'.
Considering broadcasters around the world clearly advertise any cloud service as 'cloud recording' or similar and they all have small print confirming a limited linear channel recording capability (i.e. not all channels and content can be recorded), I found the ambiguity of Sky's offering quite deafening. I've not said anything on here because quite often, you just get shot down.
The entire advertising push and materials do clearly state the following:
Found something you like? Whether it’s on demand, live, or something from your apps, quickly add it to your endless personal playlist. Tap the + button on the remote to add shows, movies, sports and more, with every available on-demand TV series added too, so you’re always up to date
Missed the beginning? Now you can play loads of live shows from the start and simply select the re-start option.
I could be wrong but the way I've taken the above from the announcement is that anything can be added to a playlist but that playlist item would just act as a bookmark, which would then perform a background search to collate all available episodes and series etc, hence the deep integration of third-party apps.
The recording live TV option, for me at least, was substituted for the live restart option on linear channels. But I imagine that is also limited to specific channels and content, again due to licensing issues.
Could somebody with Sky Glass, and a sports subscription, just try playlisting a live sports event from Sky Sports? If that content is available to view on your playlist, I will doff my hat and say that I've been wrong in my thinking. I do have a feeling that the only way to achieve it would be to live-restart it though.

Re: How does the playlist work?
The playlist which seemed to be a feature that got many people excited appears to be nothing like what people expected.
Two of my friends are returing theirs due to puck demands on the bandwidth but doubt they would have been happy with the playlist in its current state.
The question is did Sky do enough at the release to show the differences between this and the Q capabilities in terms of planner etc. Yeah they banged on about streaming but IMO they didnt do enough to show the playlist true capabilities or lack thereof.
Pulling shows from apps such as ITV hub is never going to work well in terms of picture quality.

Re: How does the playlist work?
There is one seriously unhappy lady in our house. My wife wanted Loose Women added to play list so this was done this morning. About 14:30 she wanted to watch it but it was not available in the playlist yet, there were only the last four episodes stretching back to last Friday, and you could also see the upcoming ones for tomorrow and next week as far as Thursday. Attempted again just after 3pm and still nothing, does anybody know if this is normal behaviour for ITV Hub, or in our case STV Player, the Scottish variation - eg can it be hours or even the next day until a programme appears in catch up?
So far I'm pretty unimpressed with the picture quality of STV player for programmes that are available to watch, looks very wishy washy, and that's on top of the terrible navigation of that app for ffw etc. On the other hand I had a really positive experience with C5 Player. I can count on one hand the programmes I have watched in the last year on that channel but wanted to watch 1000 Years A Slave documentary and the picture quality was excellent and the navigation excellent , easy to ffw and pause, and picked up from where left off.
Lastly I noticed there was an intermittent crackling or popping sound from the TV sounbar while watching some catch up stuff today, whereas yesterday (the first day) had been trouble free. I'm guessing this may be a bandwidth problem so turned off BT Smart Hub and rebooted TV also, when both back on I rewound the programme to where the crackling had been heard and it was fine. Hope this doesn't become a regular thing.

Re: How does the playlist work?
@gryffe Sadly catchup on the STV Player is normally behind the ITV Hub. Best thing is to setup an account in the ITV Hub with an England postcode, and you'll find today's Loose Women is already available to view.

Thanks @tarbat will do, is the picture quality better than the terrible STV player?
