HDR sport

Is there any information yet on whether the upcoming european championships will be live in hdr via the iplayer app like was mentioned last year when sky announced the arrival of HDR. also would be good to see the formula 1 and premier league starting to show in HDR now, sky are doing this in other countries. ive seen the euros are in HDR across europe, seems the UK is falling behind AGAIN!!!

@Scottyboy999

Sky doesn't have the Euros. Your own question was about the iPlayer, so you're surely best placed asking the BBC?

I haven't seen any updates about Sky's HDR sports output plans and timings. Others on here might know more.

Re: HDR sport

That would be something to ask the BBC, not Sky. Particularly when the Sky Q iPlayer app is not enabled to show anything in UHD HDR.

A list of devices that have UHD HLG HDR capable iPlayer apps can be found here:

It's more like the BBC aren't happy with the unreliability of Sky's box. They don't want to be hit with a ton of complaints if the box isn't capable of maintaining a reliable UHD stream.

Sky's announcement was that the Olympics would be the first HDR sporting event. Don't know what will happen if it's cancelled again.

I think the BBC are still testing the iPlayer version that uses MPEG-DASH but whether Q will have the grunt to run it is another matter.

The article only mentions 4K and has doesn't mention of HDR at all.

Re: HDR sport

Here you go: https://www.cordbusters.co.uk/bbc-euro-2020-4k-ultra-hd-iplayer/

It seems that 4k HDR Euro 2020 coverage in the UK is only available via some instances of the BBC iPlayer app, but not the one on Sky Q.

Re: HDR sport

There's still no mention from either Sky or the BBC as to whether the Q version of the app will be updated to enable UHD HDR. The official BBC iPlayer page still states: "Sky Q UHD is not currently supported."

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/help/questions/features/uhd-connected-tv/#/Notification

The BBC's Euros page states:

"Fans can experience the Euros in superb Ultra HD quality live on BBC iPlayer, as part of a trial from the BBC. Viewers with compatible TVs and a high-speed internet connection will be able to watch 22 of the BBC's games in Ultra-High Definition and High Dynamic Range, including the first games in the competition for Wales, England and Scotland."

There's still time for the app to be updated but they're cutting it a bit fine...

The current version of the iPlayer app requires DVB-DASH for 4K and HDR, probably chosen because it's an integral part of Freeview Play.

BBC R&D are testing iPlayer with MPEG-DASH which theoretically could run on Q but the only streams available are for manufacturer's own testing.

Re: HDR sport

The Uk snd Sky are lagging behind the rest of Europe. Then theres the olympics which are being broadcast in Uhd hdr in germany. We are left behind. Why exactly can BT sports provide hdr on live sports, but sky cant ? I expect better from a premium satellite tv provider. Up your game sky !

@blade+the Sky have said a number of times that the first sport they will broadcast in HDR is the Olympics.
