Re: Firmware QS013 has started rolling out
TV updated overnight, vivid still makes everyone look like orange oompa loompa so that's a no will stick with my own custom.
I would never recommend a Glass TV as your main set, bedroom ok but then there are so many better cheaper options.
I suspect in time the TV will be dropped it's too much hassle for Sky a gimmick to get you into streaming no TV manufacturerer or retail makes big margins on TV sales and now the puck takes centre stage.

Re: Firmware QS013 has started rolling out
I must say, I think people need to keep in mind that most people do not have the eye for very specific/minor diffrences in picture quality as members of a TV internet forum do. Personally, I love the Glass picture – it's the best of any TV I've ever owned and if QS013 makes it better (mine's not udpated yet), then great :). Most people will just notice a generally better, sharper picture – I don't think most poeple (remember, Sky aims Glass at "most people") notice the more technical, specific stuff. Of course – audiophiles and those who do notice those differences will be buying higher-end TVs anyway.
Sky will have made the strategic decision that this is the case.

Re: Firmware QS013 has started rolling out
For those who have had the 13 update, have you reset the picture settings to allow the tv to benefit from the update?
I changed my settings from those posted on here a while back which do look good but if the dimming is now working correctly I will reset if its makes the picture better overall.

Re: Firmware QS013 has started rolling out
@Ben1980 you do not need to reset the picture settings but I had to do a power down reboot to get the new settings to work. I then made some changes while watching some test material and am currntly using the Movie preset as that is thry type of picture I prefer.

Re: Firmware QS013 has started rolling out
@Anonymous, I imagine there is some tricky long term planning going on in Sky. They are still pretty dominant in the UK but, when they move away from satellite and potentially lose all their exclusive access to new US content to hardware agnostic streaming services, they will want a better long-term lock-in than a cheap as chips streaming box
TVs with their 5-10 year replacement cycle were a brave attempt.
The Stream environment, pulling together all streaming services with an engaging UI, has real potential but it's yet to be proved that it can be made to fully work. It's an open question whether the streaming services want it to work - giving up user data and user eyeballs in their own app - or whether Sky are sufficiently committed to invest in a box that can beat global players like Roku, Apple and Amazon.
The long-term pessimistic outlook is they fade away to another "UK TV Play"! with probably a separate premium Sky Sports streaming service. But, I'm sure they are planning to avoid that

Re: Firmware QS013 has started rolling out
Nobody knows their strategy but them. They will survive in some form or other but as said with streaming providers breaking away to form their own services its a challenge!
However, people won't subscribe to 10 or so providers at £5.99 a pop it's just too expensive. Sky will make deals as with Apple TV+ etc.
I hope they just keep improving for the future.
BT is a poor substitute but reasonably priced.
Virgin seems expensive and you need their fibre broadband that's not available for me.
Apple are potential major competitors alongside Roku and Amazon.
But for now back on topic, how's 13 going 🤔

Re: Firmware QS013 has started rolling out
I agree but once you've seen the picture quality of OLED you would never settle for anything else. But , as you say, the Glass TV would be more than good enough for most

Sadly I'd be amazed if most v1 Glass televisions remain in use much longer than their loan repayment period.

Re: Firmware QS013 has started rolling out
🤣 Maybe. But, as others have said, most normal people are not as obsessed about all this as us!

Re: Firmware QS013 has started rolling out
@TimmyBGood Your probably correct about Glass TVs becoming redundant but what do we do with the TV sets as they cannot be used / registered by anyone else. Sky need to amend their T&Cs to allow for TV sets to be sold on and registered by a new user.

Not great for their sustainability credentials! "We turn your Sky Stream off in the middle of a movie or sports event to 'save the planet', but your TV has to go to landfill, even after a year, if you no longer need it"!

Re: Firmware QS013 has started rolling out
I suspect the profile update will not hit this side of Christmas unless it's built into the q13 update and not yet activated.....

My guess is that there are more features sitting within v13 but as you say need activating.
Do they overwhelm there call centres by adding everything at once or trickle down one by one.
I'd say the latter is more skys style by looking at there historic patterns.
