Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@arsenal090379 Cinema mode but of course you can try them on different modes including vivid. Another might suite you better 😀

Turn your picture mode to vivid, turn OFF the auto backlight, and turn backlight to 100......local dimming on.
There's a MASSIVE difference to it now....and to these small few trying to say that it's now dimmer, they are completely wrong as I've got comparisons on my phone form before and after ...it's MUCH brighter, and the darks wayyyyyy better ....
One thing I WILL say though, is when turning the TV on, and the sky glass symbol comes up and the the Initialising symbol in the corner, well. When the Initialising symbol disappears, it takes a second or two for dimming zone to dim again.....but only Really mostly when it's just pure black screen with small bits of white...
Other than that, I think it's a HUGE difference.....youd think that it was a hardware upgrade, not.a software update

I've set my picture settings to vivid, with auto backlight off, and backlight set to 100, and local dimming switched on
13 Dec 2022 02:22 PM
The fact you've got it on movie mode is why it looks dimmer.....it's the new vivid mode that.makes the most out of the new settings.....sky LITREALLY said that in advertisment of the update......that. With backlight set to 100 and auto backlight off.

Isn't backlight at 100 too fierce?
I've tried vivid on 50 and it was burning my retinas.
Each to their own though, I like.

It's not just Vivid mode
Local Dimming works on all modes on Sky Glass Live TV and on demand content
You can see the effect local dimming has on all modes if you turn off local dimming and then turn back on
I use Auto mode most times or manually select Movie mode if needed if Auto causes TV to use a different mode
Auto most times will be movie mode depending on content you watching
Movie mode on majority of TV's is more accurate representation of the original image.
Vivid mode is not accurate and never is on any TV that has option as it boost colors and brightness
Somes TV's Vivid mode is known as dynamic mode
Some people though with Tv's may like using Vivid or Dynamic mode even though those modes are not accurate representation of the original image.
It's down to personal choice what viewing mode or custom settings a person likes best even if the setings they alter is not accurate
Custom picture settings can cause different results on TV's as not all panels the same
Just using another persons custom picture setiings does not mean you will get same result on their TV
Only way to get accurate custom picture settings results on a TV panel is using calibrating software with light meter
Auto backlight adjustment the default is now off with QS013
You will notice this if you do a reset of picture settings as it defaults to off
Before before QS013 was made available on Sky Glass TV the default was previously on and we had to turn off and adjust to to make sure was off
Note
Auto backlight adjustment and Local Dimming are different things
Before QS013 Firmware Local Dimming was disabled even if set to on or off as in it had no effect
QS013 firmware enabled Local Dimming so now works if set to on or off and you will notice the affect it causes it you set to on or off
Local Dimming default setting is on and best to keep it that way

Yeah, I know all that pal, thanks though.....
Also, I never said that auto backlight and local dimming hd anything to do with each other...... someone asked me what settings I used, so I stated it.....I know it has nothing to do with it....the local dimming are dimming zones that switch off to try and produce blacker blacks, as you'll never get true black without OLED.....I know this....same as I know the the backlight is exactly as it says.....
Either way, I was just saying that the settings I'm using, the picture looks 100X better than it did....and no one can deny that it doesn't.....and the ones that do, are usually the ones too focused trying to compare it to some £5k/10k OLED, which is completely unrealistic as thosse screens are in a completely different ballpark to the sky glass.....it makes me laugh when people say "oh my 75" LG OLED looks SOOOOOO much better " etc etc....yeah... because your comparing a not even £2k TV to one that costs MULTIPLE times the amount....apples and oranges.....
Anyhow...sorry, I'm rambling here....I just wanted to see what people thought of the update, because me myself, I can see a MASSIVE improvement.....I was watching TV at night, when I'd nodded off on the night they were rolling then out, when I woke up, I switched the telly back on, put back on the program I was watching, and because, to me anyways after sleeping, I'd only just been watching it, so i noticed the difference straight off!!!!!
To be fair though...they needed to get it like this when they originally released it.....AND they need to sort out the HDR issue with windows....or more the fact, the lack off.....
Anyhow.... take care buddy! Have a good day 😊

Yeah, each to their own like....to be fair, I mainly use backlight 100 when on consoles, watching movies, or HDR/Dolby Vision content in general....
For normal TV, I can have it on 50 happily ...and really late at night, I'm happy with it on like 35.....but I do ile the vibrancy....but, each to their own 😊

Sky Glass
Picture settings
Without having to do any custom changes
UHD/HDR content the backlight the default is already 100
SDR/HD content the backlight the default is already 50

I've just made a new post about UHD on Sky Sports. I've switched off local dimming and vertical light and dark bands are less pronounced.
"1) the local dimming feature on Glass now works bringing significant picture improvements. "
I don't agree with reference to Sky Sports UHD

I'm very happy with this update, having given it a few days of use.
I used to be plagued with drop outs or freezing of the picture on UHD sports channels, but my broadband was fine (Vodafone 5g), connected via Ethernet, with the speed check on Netflix giving a result of over 85Mb/s consistently. Without any other changes apart from this update, no more dropouts or freezes. I had made many alterations to the picture settings and a few tweaks on top of the picture improvements in this update means I now have a Glass TV that I am now actually enjoying and appreciating., not a single glitch or problem on any channel since the update arrived.
