Ah, sorry. Yes, it's very useful to have a plug socket built in, in my experience. And it doesn't impact the signal, which is good.

Re: Do Sky Q mini boxes connect to eachother?

@Rhonny

Hi Rhonny - have received my two powerline adapters (TL-PA8010PKIT)

expecting my other mini box tomorrow.

Would I need to pair the adapters or can I just plug in and go?

Many thanks

@DavidW67

(I believe you have your main box connected by ethernet to the router already which should help reliability.)

Connect one powerline by ethernet to your router. Then plug the other one in close by, and pair them. Then remove the second and plug it in near your mini box, and connect your mini to it by ethernet.

On your mini box, go to Home / Settings / Setup / Network / Reset. (If it's the first time you've ever turned the mini box on you can ignore that bit.) At step 2 of 4 on screen, DON'T press any WPS buttons when prompted as this will override the ethernet and will try to connect wirelessly. Instead just let it connect on its own which takes around 30 seconds. This ensures that the box is properly connected by ethernet to the powerline.

Re: Do Sky Q mini boxes connect to eachother?

@Rhonny

Yes that's correct (Main box is connected to BTHUB6 via ethernet)

May seem a silly question but when you say plug it in close by, can I plug it in right next to it on the same socket or shall I create a bit of distance by using the next one a few ft away?

I'm all set in regard to connecting the box when it comes as that's the exact process I used when connecting my first one but thank you very much for the advice. I've also turned off the 2.4 and 5ghz on the mini box as it's connected solely via ethernet from the Booster SE210. Will do the same on this new one too when it comes. Will keep you informed.

Thanks for all your help and advice

@DavidW67I noticed this one has power-saving which reduces  the power consumption when no data is being transferred, I looked in the manual but could find no way of turning this off.

The reason I looked this up is that sometimes if in low power consumption mode they sometimes take too long to burst into life and the mini box fails to connect.

Just a quick update for you all guys.

Successfully paired the PL adapters, plugged it in upstairs, set the box up, voila - the Mini is working!

The adapters remain paired upstairs for about half hour or so when one of them seems to lose connection. Is this the power saving mode you refer to Bob? The connection is absolutely fine when it's initially plugged in it's just after a certain amount of time the adapters lose connection between eachother.

If this is the power saving mode I'll probably return these and send for some more where I can disable the setting on there.

I should mention in addition to above that the connection is absolutely stable when the box is ON. It only drops half hour or so when the box has been in standby

@DavidW67

If you go to the Download Centre on the TP-Link website, you can find your powerline model, click on it, and under Utility tab, download to your PC the tpPLC Utility which allows you to go into each powerline adaptor and make basic adjustments. There, you can turn off the power saving mode for that adaptor

Mine never go into power saving mode.

Thanks for telling me what to do with that. I've downloaded the utility and turned off power saving mode on both. will put the new mini box and standby and see how it gets on

'in' standby I meant of course. Sorry was typing quickly lol! Also, good news re the PL adapters since turning off Power Saving Mode - the box is still connected while in standby!!

So it now seems I have solved the problem of not getting Q in the other bedroom.

Rhonny, @bob1234 @TechmanagerMal Thank you so much for all your help and advice recently it has been HIGHLY appreciated. Thank you, take care of yourselves 🙂

Hi all! Hope you're well. Just a quick update to let you know my Sky Q mini is still very much working through the TP Link PL adapters. It's brilliant. Thanks so much for your help

Since I last wrote I've upgraded my old full HD TV to a Samsung Q80A 4K QLED HDR 120hz

When plugging everything into the new TV i was wondering, as I'm still using the old Sky+HD hdmi cable (pink ended), does this give the TV the true 4K image from the q box? 4K is working fine-the q box allowed me to change to 2160p 10bit, but should I think about upgrading the cable or will the old one be ample?

@DavidW67

Glad all is well.

Do you mean Sky Q cable with the pink end? In any case, if you can get 2160p then your HDMI cable is UHD compatible. No need to change, it won't improve anything.

Re: Do Sky Q mini boxes connect to eachother?

Yes that's the one I mean 🙂 @Rhonny

'Pink ended' meaning it's the cable with the pink end going into the Q box and black going into the TV

This would have been the same cable from when I had Sky+HD put in all those years ago. If the same cable is fine with Q then I won't change it, as I say 4k HDR content is playing fine
