Do Sky Q mini boxes connect to eachother?

Have turned the wifi off on my mini with no issues.

Is it best to keep both 2.4 and 5 on on the main box or could I maybe turn the 2.4ghz off? Think I seen you mention that the mesh network is on the 5ghz channel or is that not the case with the ethernet connection from the 1tb to the bthub?

Also, if I could ask about the powerline adapater - what MBps would you recommend? 🙂

@DavidW67Unless the main box is connected to the router by Ethernet 2.4Ghz must be left on, if it is connected by Ethernet 2.4Ghz serves no purpose and can be turned off.

The mesh when Sky is not your broadband provider uses 5Ghz on Channel 36 to link boxes this is not your home  WiFi.

I can't remember how your boxes are connected but unless anything is connected to the main box using the Sky mesh the 5Ghz can be turned off.

Any powerline extenders will work BUT the important thing is that they are HomePlug AV2 standard which have speeds up to 1000 Mbps slower ones are OK (as the mini box max is 100Mbps, as are the earlier main boxes) BUT the AV2 ones use a slightly different method of connection which is more reliable (no practical difference from the usage point of view)

I use devolo magic 2, as I need an even higher speed for something else but expensive and probably overkill for what you need.

Could I just clarify what you mean here? 🙂 I have my 1TB UHD box connected to my BTHUB6 via ethernet, but the UHD is connected to the booster via WPS. Should I leave both 2.4 and 5 on?

BT is my broadband provider so I assume the Mesh network (sky 1TB UHD > wps > se210 > ethernet > mini) is using the 5ghz channel?

If by "UHD is connected to the booster via WPS. Should I leave both 2.4 and 5 on?" you mean the main box is connected to the booster then the 5Ghz needs to be on in the main box although 2.4Ghz can be turned off.

So long as Sky is not your broadband provider the Sky mesh will only use 5Ghz although the main box if not wired by Ethernet will use 2.4 Ghz.

When Sky is the broadband provider it uses both 2.4 & 5 to connect both the main box and mini boxes etc.

They would use only the live and neutral wires in your home electrics to transport the data/signal. Using the earth wire too increases speed and reliability, and that's what MIMO 2x2 technology ensures.

Just a quick query, I'm guessing it's fine to buy one with the secondary plug in to allow something else to be plugged in like the TV etc.

Also, with the PL adapters- if I was to turn the one upstairs off when not in use, how fast would it connect back up when switching back on? Would you advise keeping them both on at all times even when not in use?

Yes, always on.

And fine to get one with multiple ethernet ports so you can hardwire other things alongside the Sky box, like a TV.

Thanks for the advise about the ethernet ports, I did actually mean one which has an extra socket, so the adapter plugged into the wall with the TV plugged into that so it's powering both if you get me 🙂
