Do Sky Q mini boxes connect to eachother?

@TechmanagerMalNot necessarily my Devolo ones did not need pairing BUT if you get any that don't need pairing you must set the security options or they can easily connect to the neighbours if they have the same adapters.

• Best not to but if pushed I haven't experienced any issues.

@DavidW67Yes  I have used them with extension leads BUT make sure the lead does not have surge suppression as these will block/degrade the powerline adapters. However it is not recommended to use extension leads.

If I was to connect my 1TB Q box to my router via ethernet, how would I manage the powerline adapter set up then?

Would I just ethernet one to my router or somewhere else?

Just a quick update for you both. I've disconnected the wireless connection and instead opted to connect my Q box via an ethernet to my BT Hub

Have noticed that the SSID shows SKY00000 (0 being a number) instead of my BTHub name, does this symbolise my Sky Mesh network and is there any cause for conern?

Also, just a quick bump for my post above regarding the powerline adapters. How would I get around it having used my one and only ethernet port in the main q box? 🙂

@DavidW67If you do not have enough Ethernet ports you can use a basic unmanaged Ethernet switch they are quite cheap and will give you as many ports as you want.

It will be the Q mesh although take no notice of it mine shows the router I  used about 3 ago.

If your main box is connected to the router by Ethernet you will have used up all the ports on the main box. So use one powerline adapter plugged into the router and the other powerline adapter by Ethernet to the mini box. If you add more mini boxes you then only need to add another one by Ethernet to the additional box.

Remember powerline adapters need to be on the same mains circuit and have no surge suppression in the way. Also make sure that the security settings are on (you don't want to connect to your neighbour's) in the adapters and any energy saving settings are turned off. (If on can slow the adapter turning on and the connection failing)

The extension lead I have at the back of the TV with the landline, BThub and DVD player plugged in to does have a surge supression option, but this is not turned on. it has a 'green' light but this is not illuminated to say that this is currently on. Would it still work in this extension lead or will I need to plug it directly into the wall?

Another quick question regarding the main box and the mini I currently have:

Can I turn the wi-fi function off in either of the boxes? Just to clarify Q1TB-UHD is connected to BTHUB6 via ethernet. Sky Booster 4 SE210 is connected to Q1TB-UHD via WPS. QMINI is connected to SE210 via ethernet.

@DavidW67  You can't normally turn surge suppression off, it is there or not, I would not use that for powerline.

Once you use a booster then the boxes that that it is using to connect to need the WiFi left on.

If you have all boxes connected by either Ethernet or powerline you can turn the WiFi off in all Q boxes.

So even with my mini box connected via ethernet(through the wall) from the booster downstairs, it's best to keep the wifi ON on the mini yes?

Also; I'm planning on purchasing some powerline adapters later in the week and then getting a box. Hope it works haha. The first one will be plugged into the socket behind my TV with an ethernet to the BTHUB then the next upstairs in the bedroom with an ethernet from there

@DavidW67If your mini box is connected to the booster by ethernet and the mini box is not connected to anything else by WiFi  you don't need the WiFi on in the mini box unless Sky is your ISP and you are using the mini box as a hot spot.

I assume your booster is connected to your main box by WiFi.

My set up is as follows:

Q1TB box connected to BTHUB6 via ethernet,

SKY BOOSTER 4 SE210 connected to Q1TB via WPS,

QMini connected to SE210 via ethernet from booster up through the wall.

Guessing the Wifi on the mini can go off totally on the 2.4/5ghz channels yes?:)
