Quick question for you @Lisa-P1987 , and anyone else who replied here and may know the answer

Would Sky engineers generally put an ethernet cable over a roof to hardwire a mini box to a booster, if I desperately wanted another mini box and needed another booster?

@DavidW67With one extender connected by ethernet to the new box and the other one by Ethernet to any working Q device that has a spare Ethernet port. If none have a spare port get extra ones by using a basic unmanaged switch at the router to get extra ports and use an extender there.

Almost certainly not apart from Sky's safety rules they will not carry external quality Ethernet cables.

Use a powerlink extender very reliable and much easier.

Re: Do Sky Q mini boxes connect to eachother?

@bob1234 Thank you very much for explaining this to me Bob

Please can I clarify to make sure I'm understanding correctly

If I wanted a new Q box in the other bedroom,

  • I plug in an adapter to the socket and connect it via ethernet to my 1TB box (does this affect the connection between the HH6 and Booster SE210?
  • I then would plug another one in to the bedroom I want a box in, ethernet that to the box and that should be it?

@TechmanagerMal would this be correct? I am determined to do it ha

@DavidW67Yes that is correct and it should not effect your normal WiFi from the HH6.

@TechmanagerMal , I cannot thank you enough for all your help and advice with this.

Do you recommend any particular powerline adapters?

@Lisa-P1987

Hi Lisa, just a quick question - if I go through the process of trying another Qmini in the other bedroom, is the £50 for another box refundable if you want to send it back due to it not being able to work?

Thanks

@DavidW67I would not think it was refundable however if it does not work Sky should come out and solve  the problem free.

Re: Do Sky Q mini boxes connect to eachother?

Thanks Mal.

Just to confirm I would be doing it right now.

Plug a powerline adapter into a socket, put an ethernet cable from that into the 1TB Q box.

Plug in another powerline adapter in the bedroom with the prospective box, ethernet that up to the mini box and voila?

  • C’est ca, mais vous devez coupler les adaptateurs.

@DavidW67

I go main Sky Q to router by ethernet (to get the most reliability on the main box before using powerline), then router to powerline by ethernet, then Sky Q mini to powerline by ethernet.

Make sure the powerline you buy has the MIMO 2x2 protocol which uses all three of the electric mains wires.

I use TP-Link TL-PA8033 powerlines (or TL-WPA8630 if extending my wifi too).
