Re: Do Sky Q mini boxes connect to eachother?

@bob1234 Actually, it's just reconned now, panic over lol! I'm going to disconnect the ethernet later, put the booster upstairs halfway, reconnect the q mini to the booster and see if it holds

@DavidW67  yes, if you could WPS the main and the booster to get that connected light back on.  *edit - looks like we both posted at the same time so ignore the advice as you seem to have got the booster back on but the below still stands.*

If you continue to have issues with this, tag me and I can escalate this chat to our Q experts who can discuss it more with you 🙂

Thanks

I've just disconnected my 5GHz channel and noticed the middle 'connected' option on my booster has gone off.

Shall I reconnect my booster to my 1TB box via WPS again to sort this?

Thank you very much for your responses. They are appreciated.

Reason why I want to try and get them all wireless is because I want to put another Qmini box upstairs in my son's bedroom, so by putting the booster upstairs, and seeing if the Q1TB still holds connection to that upstairs, then holds from booster to mini- it will look encourgaing for my other prospective mini box.

I wonder if I could just ask either of you something sort of unrelated please.

How do I reset the Sky Booster SE210, not 'reset' as in click the button on the back, how can I disconnect the booster from the box altogether? 🙂

Unplug it?

Are you wanting it to use something else as the connection point for the booster?

Thanks

Re: Do Sky Q mini boxes connect to eachother?

Hi!

What I mean is if I want to 'start afresh' with it, as in unlinking it from my Sky Q 1tb box, 'forgetting' it until re-connecting it so to speak. Like 'forgetting' a wi-fi network on a phone for example.

That reset button on the back of the booster is going to be the best thing then as that will forget the network and then you will need to WPS it to wherever you want @DavidW67

Thanks

@DavidW67Remember as Sky is not your broadband provider you can't WPS from any Q device to your router/hub however you can WPS between any Q devices.

Thank you all for your replies today. I've tested the Sky Booster SE210 at different spots upstairs and the connection it has to the Q box downstairs and my mini upstairs just does not hold as well as the ethernet cable is allowing it to.

I'm guessing that another mini upstairs is a no-go.

  • Ethernet will always be more reliable but there is one more way to go, look up powerline adapters and consider a few of those at about a tenner a decent pair, its worth all the hassle when you finally get it right - honest!

Re: Do Sky Q mini boxes connect to eachother?

Thank you for suggesting this @TechmanagerMal

How would that work in practice for me would you say?

So I've established that the sky se210 booster has a very weak connection to 1TB box downstairs, and no connection to my mini box in one of the bedrooms, but SE210 downstairs connected to 1TB via wps, then hardwired into the back of the mini box upstairs works perfectly.

How would a powerline adapter help me with another mini in my son's bedroom across the landing? 🙂

Re: Do Sky Q mini boxes connect to eachother?

Quick question for you @Lisa-P1987 , and anyone else who replied here and may know the answer

Would Sky engineers generally put an ethernet cable over a roof to hardwire a mini box to a booster, if I desperately wanted another mini box and needed another booster?

  • A short ethernet cable from the Q box to the ( I suggest ) TP-Link then similar to another and to the mini in the bedroom

@DavidW67  Probably not, in any case putting ethernet over a roof and leaving open to the elements is not a great idea.
