My new tv has an av socket can I connect my sky+ box by this instead of scart which my tv doesn't have

I think that's component-video-in plus L/R audio (similar panel below) Possibly the green/yellow is intended to indicate that socket also does composite-video-in by itself.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@sasa72 Yes, I think @TimmyBGood is right - in which case you can connect your Sky box using those sockets: yellow to green/yellow, red to red and white to white.
